PROJECT BIG BROTHER BIG SISTER
This project aims to improve the reading skills of primary pupils with
reading difficulties and to enable the Grade 5 and 6 pupils to be involved in
eradicating or lessen number of slow and non-readers.

PROGRAM GOAL AND OBJECTIVES

 To improve the reading skills of primary pupils with reading difficulties.

 To enable the Grade V and Grade VI pupils to be involved in eradicating
or lessen number of slow and non-readers.
 To give the primary class advisers an aid in conducting remedial reading.
 To increase the performance and literacy in English.
 To encourage parents to engage in reading activities with their children.

Recognizing the importance of reading as a foundation of learning.

The Department of Education is implementing various intervention programs to
provide support to Filipino children falling behind in reading and writing. One of
the program is to promote its Every Child A Reader, making every Filipino child
a successful and competent reader and writer.
With the present result of the District Baseline Evaluation, school year
2017-2018. It was found out that out of 422 pupils in the primary level (Grade
I-III) 85 pupils were in frustration level in reading and 24 pupils were non-
readers. The result is quite alarming and needs immediate action to resolve
the problems of slow readers and non-readers.
For this reason, the proponents come up with an innovative project
to lessen the burden of teachers and to develop the sense of responsibility in
our young learner in the school, the proponents come to utilize the Grade V
and Grade VI pupils to help the pupils in primary who need assistance in
reading.
The program was piloted during the 2nd of July until the 2nd week of
October 2017. A positive result was observed using the Project Big Brother Big
Sister wherein the identified non-readers were able to read though some of
them are still fall under frustration level.
The clientele of this project on the other hand, refer to Grade I to Grade
III pupils who are identified by their advisers that need to be on remedial class
for the purpose of enhancing their reading ability.
