The best part of the project for me was the conference itself.

It was generally enjoyable

and felt like it summed up a lot of what we did in the preparation time beforehand. I have a lot of
interest in world politics and the dynamic between large nations, and what these large and
powerful countries do when they interact with each other so this project was very interesting to
me. I didn’t enjoy the research part as much because many of the sources we used were biased
greatly towards one side, it could have been better if we used sources that showed both sides a
little better.
Over the course of this project I think I learned to be able to use more sources I don’t
agree with and still formulate a solid perspective of my own using sources that I both do and
don’t agree with. I hold a perspective on the issue in Venezuela, the issue we covered in the
first conference that differs from the most common perspective. I disagreed with most of the
articles and sources that were provided for us to use as they pushed this most common
perspective. I believe that the issues in Venezuela are real, but a result of foreign intervention,
not the local government. In this project, I got better at still reading and using these alternate
perspectives then using them appropriately.
I felt mostly prepared for the first conference. I had everything ready, I had a speech, all
of my papers, I knew all of my talking points, I was almost entirely ready, except for one thing. I
feel that we could have had a bit more practice for the conference itself than what we did have
in the end. I was doing fine for most of the conference but was quite confused for the beginning
of it, I wasn’t 100% what to do so I just spent most of my time observing until after around 15
minutes I got the hang of it and was ready to fully participate. I know we did a practice
conference beforehand but I think some more review of parliamentary procedure in a set time
frame would have been very helpful.
Next semester I think the biggest change I can make is to be more educated on the
issue, and learn the views of other countries as well so I can begin to formulate a course of
action. If I can know who’s on each side of each issue I can form alliances and know how to
make compromises to get more support to a resolution I either created or support. If I am more
prepared for the conference I can also participate in it more efficiently and have a strong
understanding of it beforehand. All of this will lead to me both performing better in the
conference academically and enjoying it more.
