1.1 Display
The Universal Controller URE422/424 visualize its true value, limit values and parameter values on a
3½ digit digital display (1). A 3½ digit display is used for setpoint and funktionsdisplay (3), three LED
(2) to display the deviation and two LED (4) (URE424 has four) to display the binary output display.

The three LED´s(2) show the deviation as follows:

green LED -> Deviation xw < 1%
upper red LED ->Deviation xw < - 1%
lower red LED -> Deviation xw + 1%

1.2 Tasten
For the input of setpoint, manual output and to controll the parameters, two key (8) and (9) are
provided.
The button called Hand/Pgm ( 7 ) brings the controller to manual mode. If you are in the input mode
for parameters, this key toggles between select or adjust of the values.
With the We/Wi an exteral are a second internal setpoint can be selected (depending on configuration)

1.3 Controller Function

The controller uses a PID-algorithm with selftuning option.
The PID is present independent of the input mode, which means that changes on parameters take
affect immidiatelly.

1.4 Sensordefect
A sensordefect is shows by flashing the true value and the output is set to a defined (Yb) value..

Operating manual URE422/URE424

1.5 Parameter
Prozessvalues, PID-parameters and the configuration-definitions are mapped in three layers. To enter
a layer, the buttons + and – are pressed simultaniously. The display shows „Co“ and the correct code
for the layer must be entered.

1.6 Controll - Level

Normally the funtional-display (3) shows prozessvalue Wi1, Wi2 We or Y. With the buttons + and – the
values of Wi1, Wi2 and output Y can be changed.
The upper display allways shos the input

1.7 Parameter - Level

This level controlls the PID-parameters KP, TN, TV, KD, Ymax, Ymin, Yo, tt, SLF and th. To enter the
parameter level, the buttons + and – are pressed simultaniously. The display shows „Co“ and the
correct code for the layer must be entered. Level access is confirmed by pressing button Hand/Auto.
The code is defined in configuration layer.

1.8 Configuration - Level

This level defines the configuration of the unit for all in- and outputs and all functional definitions. To
enter the configuration level, the buttons + and – are pressed simultaniously. The display shows „Co“
and the correct code for the layer must be entered. Level access is confirmed by pressing button
Hand/Auto. The code is defined in configuration layer.

1.9 Alarm - Level

Here are defined the setpoint and hysteresis of the alarms. To enter the alarm level, the buttons + and
– are pressed simultaniously. The display shows „Co“ and the correct code for the layer must be
entered. Level access is confirmed by pressing button Hand/Auto. The code is defined in configuration
layer.

2 Operating instruction

2.1 Controll - Level

After power-on a self-test is performed and the display shows „UrE“ and the actual software-version.
After that truevalue and setpoint is displayed, the unit is in normal mode.
In the lower display, internal and external setpoints as well as the output value can be displayed:
Only Wi1 selected ( SPE = 0 )
Wi is displayed and by pressing button We the value of We can be shown.
Second setpoint Wi2 is aktiviated ( SP2 = 1 and SPE = 7 )
Depending of the binary input BE the setpoint Wi1 or Wi2 is selected and adjusted ba the buttons +
and -. By holding the button We the not activated setpoint can be shown and changed by + and -.
We ist aktiviert ( SPE = 1, 6, 7 oder 8)
If external setpoint is displayed (LED We on), a press on button + or – switches display to Wi for 2
seconds. Within this time, changing of Wi is possible.
2.1.1 Display of output Y
The output value Y is diplayed for two seconds after pressing button Hand/Pgm.
2.1.2 Manual Operation
Depending of the manual mode definition YH, a manual mode can be activated. This is shown by the
LED (6).

01/01 6 V3.0x
Operating manual URE422/URE424

To provide a smooth switching from or to manual mode, the integral-value of PID is adapted. If only P-
function of the controller is selected the output bias Y0 is adapted.
Without manual mode ( Modus YH = 0 )
No manual mode is available, output value can only be displayed.
With manual mode ( YH = 1 )
To enter manual mode, press at first button Hand/Pgm. The output value is shows for 2 seconds.
Pressing + or – within this time enters the manual mode (LED (6) on). Now the output value can be set
with + and -.
To leave manual mode just press Hand/Pgm

3 Parameteter - Level
To enter the parameter level, the buttons + and – are pressed simultaniously. The display shows „Co“
and the correct code for the layer must be entered. Level access is confirmed by pressing button
Hand/Pgm. Default value for this level is 1. After successfull access the functional display show
parameter P. A wrong code leads back to operating level.
To change values in this level, select the parameter with + and -. To change the value press button
Hand/Pgm. Now the parameter-short in functional-display flashes and the value can be changed.
Pressing + or – for a longer time, increasing or decreasing is done automatical. The speed of changing
increases after 1 second. Pressing Hand/Pgm again stores the vaue and a selection of the next
parameter is possible.
To leave the level, select the parameter end or press + and – simutaniously.

6 PID-Selftuning URE 422 (424)

7 Introduction
• The controller URE 422 has an algorithm, which is able to idetify the controlled system and to
adapt the PID-Parameters over a wide range.
• Therefore it is neccesasary, that all in- and outputs are connected to the system in the right way
and that the controller-configuration is correctly completed.
• Important: During identification the controller will perform large output changes, which may
damage the system. Make sure that the output limitation (Y_ (Ymin) und Y¯ (Ymax)) avoid
hazardous conditions.

8 Selftuning Preparations
• Release manual mode (in configuriation level YH =1).
• Change Controller to manual mode (in operating level push key Pgm/Hand followed by× or Ø
within 2 seconds).
• Select manual output value with push key × or Ø.

9 Selection of Controller Mode

• select parameter level (default Code =1).
• For PI control mode, Kd has to be Zero, for PID control mode Kd should be greater then Zero.
• select Parameter SLF:
0=no selftuning
1=selftuning w/out overshoot.
2=selftuning with overshoot up to 10%.

• Exit parameter level.

• The display alternates PRE and Set point.
• Select new Setpoint with push keys × and Ø. (New Setpoint must differ at least 5% from true
value, in aspect to the controlling range defined by E_ und E¯ ).

10 Start of Selftuning
• In the system all building-ups should be completed.
• Push key Pgm/Hand
• The start of the selftuning is indicated by the display alternating SLF and Setpoint.
Changing the Setpoint in this condition is impossible.

11 End of Selftuning

11.1 Manual Break

• Push key Pgm/Hand.
• The controller is now in the same condition as before Start of Selftuning.

11.2 Normal End of Selftuning

• Selftuning is ready, when display stops alternating.
• If no error has occured, the controller turns to automatic mode with the selected setpoint.
• If no manual mode needed in the prozess, it should be disabled (Parameter YH)

14.1 Power Supply

The power supply is either for 220V/110V 48...62HZ or
24V AC/DC. Protective ground should be connected to
PE or any other available ground. The wiring should be
low inductive and every unit needs a direct connection
to a ground bus. In other case there is no garantie for
regular EMV-behavier.

16 Outputs

16.1 Output Y mA or V
The analog output is optional and need the assembly of an additional board
(Pic 17). Using switch S1(Pic 16) according to Pic 15 and output mode Yn =
PE 21 22 0 ..2, a controll element with mA output can be connected as shown. Use a
shielded wire and connect the shield to protective ground of the unit.
The output signal can be selected on the board by a switch (0(4)...20mA or
0(2)...10V ).

16.2 2-Point output ( Mode rF=1oder 2)

The output BA1 can drive an actor with 2point-action,

configured by rF = 1 or 2. The puls-time tt must be
adapted to the actor and schould not exceed 1/30 of
process rise time. Long time may cause ripple on the
true value, short time decrease the lifetime of the actor,
but enhances the controller result.

16.3 3point- output ( Mode rF=3 )

The output BA1 and BA2 can drive two actors with
2point-action for heating and cooling, configured by
rF = 3. The puls-time tt must be adapted to the
actor and schould not exceed 1/30 of process rise
time. Long time may cause ripple on the true value,
short time decrease the lifetime of the actor, but
enhances the controller result.

16.4 2point-step-output ( Modus rF=4 )

In mode rF = 4 BA1 and BA2 drive a motor controlled
actor. The pulstime tt defines the time to change the
actor from 0% to 100%. The PID should be configured
as PI with tn < tt. Parameter AH1 defines a hysteresis
between motor direction.

feedback

16.5 2point-step-output with feedback ( Mode rF=5)

L
41 N Mode rF = 5 allows connection of a motor with feedback-
BA1 poti to the outputs BA1 and BA2. The adaption of
42
PI pulstime is 1/10 of motor action time for 100% change. To
43 calibrate the feedback-poti it must be in position 100%.
BA2 Zu Auf
+ 44 Select parameter CAL to calibrated the poti. During
21 22 calibration the parameter ES must be within 0..7. The PID
should be configured as PI with tn < 10 x tt. Parameter
AH1 defines a hysteresis between motor direction.

17 Hardware-Configuration
Most of configuration are controlled by software. Some few adaption must be done by hardware as
follows:
• Input X
• Externer Sollwert Wext
configuration with S1 and S2 (Pic 16) according to the table Pic 15

• analog output
the optional output modul (Pic 17) must be installed. The output signal is selected by a switch on
the modul.
