Snivy Amigurumi
Crochet pattern by Elealy Butcher
This amigurumi is made of two long pieces seamed together. It makes extensive use of short rows to achieve Snivy’s
sinuous shape.
Obligatory warning: Do not claim this pattern as your own. Do not sell or redistribute it. This crochet pattern is my
original work. Snivy and Pokemon are property of Nintendo.
Thanks to Sarah Alley for testing and proofreading this pattern!
Materials
Worsted weight yarn in green and beige
Felt in yellow, black, white, and red-brown
o If you’re going to needle felt the decorations, wool felt is ideal. You can use wool roving instead for all
colors except yellow. You will still need yellow felt for the vines on Snivy’s neck.
Yellow embroidery thread or sewing thread
18 or 16 gauge craft wire, about 6 inches
Stuffing
Tapestry needle
Chenille or embroidery needle (optional)
Sewing thread (optional)
Felting needle (optional; you can glue or sew the eyes and stripes instead)

Tail – green
The tail is made of three leaves joined together. I crochet at a fairly tight gauge, which makes the leaves stiff enough to
stand up on their own. If your leaves come out floppy or you want the tail to be thicker, you can make the whole thing
twice and stitch the two pieces together back to back.
Right leaf
1. ch 13. Dc in 3rd ch from hook, tr 4, dc 3, hdc, sc, slst.
2. ch 2 to form leaf tip. Starting in other side of the chain stitch where you worked the previous slst: slst, sc, hdc,
dc 3 and mark the middle one with stitch marker, hdc, sc, slst 2, slst in starting DC chain. FO.
The marked stitch and the six stitches below it will soon be joined to the middle leaf.
Left leaf
1. ch 12. Slst 3 starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc, hdc, dc 3 and mark the middle one with stitch marker, hdc, sc, slst.
2. ch 2 to form leaf tip. Starting in other side of the chain stitch where you worked the previous slst: slst, sc, hdc,
dc 3, tr 4, dc. Join to beginning of first row: ch 2, slst around the turning chain before the 1st slst of row 1. FO.
The marked stitch and the six stitches below it will soon be joined to the middle leaf.
Middle leaf
Both sides of this leaf will be joined to the side leaves as you go. The lowermost stitches on both leaves should line up.
To work a stitch while joining it to an adjacent leaf: First, drop loop from hook, ins hook into desired stitch of the finished
leaf, pick up dropped loop, and pull it through. Then work the next stitch as normal.
1. ch 13. Starting in 2nd ch from hook, work the following stitches while joining them to the right-side leaf: slst 2,
sc 2, hdc 2, dc. Work the following stitches normally: dc 2, hdc, sc, slst.
2. ch 2 to form leaf tip. Slst in other side of the chain where you worked the prev slst. Sc, hdc, dc 2. Work
remaining stitches while joining them to the left-side leaf: dc, hdc 2, sc 2, slst 2. FO.

Assembly
1. Stitch top and bottom halves together with ladder stitch or mattress stitch. Start stuffing after you finish the
first side seam. If you are using wire for the neck vines and you aren’t needle felting the back stripe, you might
find it helpful to place the length of wire sideways through Snivy’s neck before you close up the neck.
Sewing tips:
Line up the jawbone curves first and then the front and back points. It may help to place straight pins
along the seams to keep things lined up while you’re stitching.
It’s much easier to make the join invisible if you use sewing thread and a sharp fine needle. You can
pierce the yarn to make stitches along the very edge of the fabric. This way the thread never comes to
the front of the fabric and the stitches won’t show.
It’s hard to hide the stitches if you are using yarn and a tapestry needle, but it’s possible. In that case I
recommend using the same beige yarn that you used for Snivy’s underside. When you stitch into the
top piece, try to go through loops that lie just on the inside of the piece.
2. Attach tail, arms, and feet. For the feet, whipstitch ankles to belly, passing needle through front and back layers
of ankle together. Tuck all the loose ends away.
3. Apply surface decorations: eyes, stripe along back and shoulders. I needle felted these decorations.
4. Embroider Snivy’s mouth and nostrils. The mouth is a horizontal line 4 stitches wide a couple rows in front of
Snivy’s neck. The nostrils are short parallel lines near the front of Snivy’s lower jaw.
5. Finally, make the neck vines.
If you didn’t insert the wire while sewing, push it through
the sides of the neck now. Make sure the wire is the right
length for the felt sleeves. Bend both ends of the wire
backward so it won’t poke through the sleeves.
Slip the felt sleeves over the wire and stitch their bases
to Snivy’s side seam.
Gently curl the wired felt downward and backward.
