2. MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONS

Many MODUS system management and utility functions are


grouped on the toolbar which can be consulted and used at any
time during the acceptance and diagnosis phases with the exception
of the actual measurement session.
Select the key corresponding to the function required on the tool-
bar to access the related environment.

2.2 SETTINGS ENVIRONMENT

To access this environment, select the SETTINGS key on the toolbar.


From this environment, you can modify, check or update certain set-
tings of the MODUS system, selecting the matching sheet:
– SETTING
– MAINENTANCE
– CHECK
– UPDATE
– SERVICES
– PROGRAMS ON CD (MODUS Station only)

Setting sheet
The following settings of the MODUS system can be modified using
this sheet:
1. time settings (day/month/year and hours/minutes/seconds)
2. setting of the language

Time settings
To modify the time settings (ref. fig. 2.2):
– select DAY/TIME active field
– use the +/– keys to set the field selected to the value
required
– select the TICK key to confirm the operation

The format accepted for the date is: dd/mm/yyyy (e.g. 18/12/2000).
The format accepted for the time is: hh/mm/ss (e.g.19:26:24).

Setting of the language


To choose a different language from that set, simply select the flag
corresponding to the language required in the SELECT LANGUAGE
active area (ref. fig. 2.2).

Maintenance sheet
The following operations can be carried out in the Settings environ-
ment, from the MAIINENTANCE sheet, selecting the matching OPERA-
TION key (ref. fig. 2.3):
– database rebuild
asks the system to rebuild the databases of the MODUS system;
the system will perform this operation the first time the Station
is restarted dr

– delete database
is used to delete the Workshop database if this has been cor-
rupted; ask the ELTRAC Field Service for the password

– restore data (MODUS Station only)


used to recover any data deleted previously with the DELETE DATA-
BASE command; ask the ELTRAC Field Service for the password

– modify serial number (MODUS Station only)

used to modify the serial number of the MODUS Station. This


number is attributed to the workshop when MODUS is installed.
The serial number can be modified only by authorized personnel
in possession of an authorization diskette.

This operation is carried out using the keyboard (ref. fig. 2.4):

i. insert the authorization diskette in the specific slot;
ii. select the SERIAL NO. active field and enter the serial
number;

iii. select the WORKSHOP OR DEALER active area and enter
the official name of the workshop;
iv. select the TICK key to confirm the operation.

Test sheet
At start-up, the system automatically performs a set of tests; if you
have any doubts regarding correct functioning of the various mod-
ules of the station, you can repeat the tests by selecting the TEST
sheet in the Settings environment (ref. fig. 2.5).
Selecting the matching key, you can check the following:
– functioning of the Engine Tester (IET) (MODUS Station only)
– functioning of the brake diagnosis module (MODUS Station
only)
– the setting of the pressure sensors (MODUS Station only)

– functioning of the communication board with the electronic


control units
– the setting of the instrument (IWT only)
The system indicates the result of the tests by displaying the TICK/
CROSS symbols (positive/negative result) to the side of the key
selected.
In the example in figure 2.5, all the

that on the IET.

You can also calibrate the touch screen.

Functioning of the Engine Tester (MODUS Station only)
1. connect the IET to MODUS (ref. Part 1- Chap. 3)

2. select the CHECK ENGINE TESTER FUNCTIONING key
For a complete check, the cables must be disconnected from the
related connectors on the swivel arm. The MODUS Station makes
the check and then communicates the result.
If the IET is not connected to the MODUS Station, this event is indi-
cated in a new window: make the connection and select the REPEAT
key. Otherwise, select the DELETE key.
If incorrect functioning is detected (negative check), contact the
ELTRAC Field Service.
If the fault in a circuit does not affect correct functioning of the oth-
ers, the faulty circuit is indicated. Only the capabilities relating to the
faulty circuit will be inhibited.

When you select the CHECK BRAKE DIAGNOSIS MODULE FUNCTION-


ING key, the MODUS Station will guide you through the operations
necessary to run the test correctly.
If cable A1 is inser ted in connector A on the rear panel of the
MODUS Station (ref. Part 1- Chap. 3):
1. unplug the cable from the related connector
2. confirm by selecting the TICK key
3. follow the instructions shown on the screen and carry out the
operations indicated (connection of the cable, termination of
the cable with the related plug, selection of the corresponding
key on the screen, etc.)
The system makes the check and communicates the result; if incor-
rect functioning is detected (negative check), contact the ELTRAC
Field Service.

Setting of the pressure sensors via cable (MODUS Station only)

Update sheet
The software version of the MODUS/IWT system can be updated
by selecting the matching key (ref. fig. 2.7).

Engine Tester Update
The Engine Tester (IET) can be updated from the MODUS Station
by selecting the matching key; make sure that the IET is on and con-

IT 2000 Tester Update


The IT 2000 Tester can be updated from the MODUS Station.

Programs on Cd sheet
IVECO CD-ROMs can be used.
The installation procedure differs according to the application to be
installed.
The applications that can be installed are grouped as follows:
– spares, base
– equipment
– multimedia applications

Install IVECO CD –ROMs and applications authorized by IVECO


After inserting the CD in the specific reader:
1. select the INSTALLATION key to display the list of installable
applications in the APPLICATIONS LIST active area (ref. fig. 2.8)

Uninstall applications authorized by IVECO

To uninstall an application installed previously:
1. select the application in the APPLICATIONS LIST active area
2. select the UNINSTALL key (ref. fig. 2.8)

Copy IVECO CD–ROM


After inserting the CD correctly in the specific reader, select the
COPY key to copy the entire CD –ROM (ref. fig. 2.8).
If there is not enough free space in the MODUS area reserved for
external applications, delete an application copied previously before
attempting the copy operation again.

Delete the data copied previously


To delete the data entered during a previous copy CD operation:

1. select the application in the APPLICATIONS LIST active area


2. select the UNINSTALL key
3. select the DELETE key
The DELETE key makes it possible to eliminate host applications from
the hard disk.

Services sheet
The SERVICES sheet is used to manage, install or remove system
options; the authorization of the ELTRAC Field Service is therefore
required.

Install a system application
To install, for example, data or option restore disks:
– select the PATH active field (ref. fig. 2.9)
– enter the path and the name of the application on the CD
or on the floppy disk (e.g. d:\drv\stp\hpdj350)
to perform this operation, request hot line assistance

– select the RUN key

Remove a system application


To remove applications installed previously, after contacting the
ELTRAC Field Service:
– select the application to be removed from the APPLICA-
TION active area (ref. fig. 2.9)

– select the REMOVE key

Install a new printer (only for IWT Tester):


The software required to use one of the following printers, which
can be ordered from the ELTRAC Field Service can be installed
from this sheet:
– HP DeskJet 350 cbi
– HP DeskJet 880 c
– HP DeskJet 950 c
Installation of a printer enables the tester for programming.
To install the new printer, follow the procedure explained below:
– on the SERVICES sheet, select the PRINTERS/ADD key (ref. fig.
2.10a)
– the operating system displays a set of screen pages to facili-
tate installation of the printer ; answer the questions dis-
played by the system as illustrated below

2.3 DATABASE ENVIRONMENT

To access this environment, select the DATABASE key on the toolbar.


From this environment, it is possible to access the local database of
the MODUS Station or of the IWT Tester.
The vehicles inserted in the database at the end of previous diagno-
sis sessions and their characteristic data are listed.
Using the functions of the Database environment, you can:
– search
– consult
– definitively eliminate
the data referring to the vehicles in the database.

Consult vehicle data in the database


To analyze and print the reports of previous diagnosis sessions on
a vehicle, carry out the procedure explained below (ref. fig. 2.11):
– select the vehicle in the VEHICLES IN DATABASE active area
– confirm the option selected with the TICK key
the MODUS system displays the report of the operations carried
out on the vehicle in the database

– select the print key to print the report (ref. fig. 2.12)

Delete the data of vehicles in the database


To remove the data of a vehicle saved previously, carry out the pro-
cedure explained below (ref. fig. 2.11):

– select the vehicle in the VEHICLES IN DATABASE active area

– select the area highlighted again: the TICK symbol is displayed
beside the vehicle selected
– select the BIN key to move the data of the vehicle intro the

the data are eliminated only at the end of the procedure
described; until the TICK key is selected, the delete operation
can be cancelled

Find a vehicle on the database


A new diagnosis session can be carried out on a vehicle in the data-
base according to the procedure described below:
– select the BINOCULARS key
– using the drop-down menu, select the type of data you want to
find in the SEARCH KEY SELECTION active area (ref. fig. 2.13)

2.4 MODUS-IWT CONNECTION ENVIRONMENT

The color of the code of the IWT displayed on the status bar indi-
cates the status of the connection:
– black indicates no errors

and IWT

When the connection between the MODUS Station and IWT is


effective, i.e. of the two instruments are connected (via cable) and
communicating (via software), the following operations are enabled:
– display of connection diagrams
– enabling of the MEASUREMENTS key on the toolbar.
Selecting the icon of the IWT on the status bar, the logical connection
between the MODUS Station and the IWT can be modified (eliminate
or restore).

2.5 DATA TRANSFER ENVIRONMENT

Selection of the TRANSFER key on the toolbar permits access to the Refer to chapter 3 - connection with

The operation of transfer from IWT to MODUS also automatically
eliminates the data of the vehicle from the memory of the IWT.

IET-MODUS transfer
To transfer, via network, the data referring to the vehicles under
diagnosis on the IET from the IET to the MODUS Station, the fol-
lowing operations must be carried:
1. make the connections required to connect the MODUS
Station and the IET
2. select the TRANSFER key on the toolbar to access the Data
Transfer environment
3. select the FROM IET TO MODUS sheet if this is not displayed
automatically by the system (ref. fig. 2.16)
4. select the OFF-LOAD MEASUREMENTS key
the list of measurements saved on the IET together with certain
characteristic data (engine, serial number, type of measurement,
date of the measurement, etc.) is displayed in the VEHICLE LIST
active area

5. select the ASSOCIATE key to enable transfer of the measure-


ments made with IET into the database of the vehicle on
the MODUS Station
the measurements made with the IET can be inserted in the data-
base of the vehicle only if a vehicle is under diagnosis on the

MODUS Station, i.e. if the VIN code is displayed in the VEHICLE


LIST active area (ref. fig. 2.16).

If a vehicle is not under diagnosis on the MODUS Station, i.e. if its


VIN code is not displayed on the VEHICLE LIST active area (ref. fig.
2.16) the ASSOCIATE key is not active: for association, the vehicle
must be accepted on the MODUS Station.

Removal of a measurement from the list


The association operation acts on all the measurements displayed
on the VEHICLE LIST active area. If a measurement is not to be associ-
ated to a vehicle, the measurement must be removed form the list.
To eliminate a measurement from the list, proceed as follows:
– select the element to be deleted in the region of the VEHICLE
LIST active area identified by the BIN symbol
– the CROSS symbol identifies the element selected
– select the BIN key to conclude elimination.

Display of the graph of the measurement


The graph of a tests selected can be displayed; to do this:
– select the element to be displayed in the VEHICLE LIST active

2.6 HELP ENVIRONMENT

To access this environment, select the HELP key on the toolbar.


From this environment, you can consult:
1. the on-line help on the user interface of the MODUS Sta-
tion
2. the tables containing information about the contents of the
diagnosis programs

How to read the on-line help


The subject about which fur ther information is available is
underlined and shown in blue. This is a selectable area: to obtain
help, touch the screen at the position of the blue underlined text. At
the time of selection, the text about which help is required is
highlighted in red; after selection, it remains displayed in red.
In the text of a help page, the words highlighted in black refer to
active areas or elements on the MODUS system.
To find a specific subject:
– select SUBJECTS on the yellow bar at the bottom of the
page; select the subject concerned
– select INDEX on the yellow bar at the bottom of the page;

The CROSS key can be used to terminate consultation of the on-line

Battery test

2.9 STOP KEY

Selecting the STOP key on the toolbar, the diagnosis program can be
exited or restarted.
Select the STOP key must be selected each time you intend to shut
down the MODUS system (see Part I).
