SECTION "B"
[ 5Q. × 6 = 30 marks]
Attempt ANY FIVE questions:
3. What are the differences between ideal solution and non- ideal solution? How would you
show that the relative lowering of vapour pressure is a colligative property? [2.5+3.5=6]
5. Why is it necessary to derive integrated rate law equation despite the fact that we have
already differential rate law equation? Derive the integrated rate law equation for the first
order reaction. Is half life period for the first order reaction independent to the initial
concentration of the reactant? [1.5+3+1.5=6]
6. a. What are thermodynamic state functions? Explain Hess’s law of constant heat summation.
b. Calculate the enthalpy of formation of C6H6 represented by the following reaction.
6C(s) + 3H2(g) C6H6(l)
The standard enthalpy of combustion of C6H6 is -3268 KJ and the standard enthalpies of
formation of CO2(g) and H2O(l) are -393.5 KJ and -285.8 KJ respectively. [1+2+3=6]
7. What is salt bridge and why is it used? Complete and balance the following redox reactions
by ion-electron method. [2+2+2=6]
i. Zn + NO3- Zn++ + NH4 + (Acidic medium)
ii. Cu (NH3)4+ + + S2O4- - SO3- - + Cu + NH3 (Basic medium)

b. At 20 C, the vapor pressure of pure benzene is 22 mm, and that of pure toluene is 75 mm.
What is the composition of the solution of these two components that has a vapor pressure of
50 mm at this temperature? What is the composition of the vapor in equilibrium with this
solution? [4]
9. a. Define hydrolysis. Deduce the relation, Kh= Kw/Ka, where the symbols have their usual
meanings. [1+3]
