I. Introduction
This module is about linear equations in two variables which can be written in two forms: the
Standard Form: + = where A, B and C ∈ ℝ, ≠ 0, and ≠ 0; and the Slope-intercept Form: = + where is the
slope and is the -intercept, and ∈ ℝ, and ≠ 0.
II. Objective:
• writes the linear equation + = in the form = + and vice versa.
IV. Pre-Test
Tell whether each of given equations is written in standard form or
in slope-intercept form.
2
1. + 4 =16 4. = − 10
2. = −5 – 2 5. 6 – = 12
3. −8 + 2 = 3

V. Learning Activities: Learning Situation 1:
How do we rewrite the equation 3 – 5 = 10 in the form
= + ? Determine its slope and -intercept.
I have here an example for you, try to take note the steps so
that you will be ready for the succeeding activities.
SOLUTION:
3 – 5 = 10
Given
3 – 5 + (−3 ) = 10 + (−3 ) Addition Property of Equality
−5 = −3 + 10 Simplification
1 1
=5 −2
3
Therefore, in our example, the slope ( ) is 5 and the - intercept ( ) is −2.
Learning Situation 2:
How do we rewrite the equation + = ?
1
= 2 + 3 in the form
You have learned how to transform an equation from the standard form + = to slope intercept form = + .
Now can you do the reverse of it? How are you going to rewrite a linear
2
equation from slope-intercept form to its standard form? What steps
and properties of equality are you going to use?
SOLUTION:
=12 +3
2( ) = 2 (12 + 3)
2 =
2 + (− ) =
− +2 =6
+6
+ 6 + (− ) Given
(−1)(− + 2 ) = (−1)(6)
– 2 = −6
