Tread Brake System
This is a general braking method to apply brake by pressing the brake shoe on the tread. The brake shoe is made of cast iron
(mainly for locomotives and freight wagons), sintered alloy (mainly for conventional express trains and Shinkansen) and
synthetic resin (mainly for conventional line trains), and used according to the use of the rolling stocks and weather conditions.
The tread brake, in which a brake shoe is pressed on the tread surface, has disadvantage such as causing wear of the tread and
thermal effects, while cast iron shoe has an advantage such as increased adhesive force between rail and wheel.

Fulcrum Fulcrum
Braking is applied by pressing a brake lining on the brake disks (metal) mounted in the axle and the lateral side of the
wheel.
Advantages such as preventing wheel tread wear and ensuring stable braking due to the release of braking heat from the
disk, this is used in recent rolling stocks. tread cleaner is jointly used for effective use of adhesive force.
※There is also a tread + disk brake system.
