So in the teacher centered curriculum the teacher is the one that student rely on learning, teachers is

expected to give all necessary knowledge and skills that the students will learn and master. As what
Ma’am Dadole mentioned last time teacher spoon feed everything that students need, in the name of
education they does that and for how many decades that has been what the education is doing in order
to achieve the goal of equipping and preparing students in thier roles in the society. However, as time
changed, the educational perspective also changed, then there the Learner Centered Curriculum was
brought to light. The definition of “to succeed in the future” has also changed. That means our model of
learning must changed and it’s happening now and it needs to even happen more in more places for all
students espicially for those who are in the current system that isn’t working. There are a lot of data that
shows we need to rethink learning like remodeling a house, that we’re not just going to add new coat of
paint, but we are going to update the outdated parts and making it more modern and efficient,
strengthening what works and fixing what doesn’t. So those day’s where other students excel and some
doesn’t are gone, because today in this tough generation, society need all students to excel and in order
to make that happen we have to make all students be engage and active in school and that’s what a
learner centered classroom do. So it incorporates the students skills and interest into the learning
process making the experince more personalized and involving the student in his or her own future.

So in Learner Centered Learning there are 4 key Principles and these are: first Learning is Personalized,
second Learning is Competency Based, third is Learning Happen Anytime, Anywhere, and the fourth and
last is Student Take Ownership.

So let’s go with the first one, the Learning is Personalized principle.

Learninng is personalized is only possible if the teacher know students have strong relationships with
them and can meet students where they are in their development. So bond between teacher and
student is necessary to be strong so that teachers can be able to assess the improvement or the
development of their student closely so that they could see what the student lack that the teacher could
advice to the student to improve what’s lacking and help them with that necessary improvement.

Next slide is the the principle of Learning is a competency based.

So learning is about the information, knowledge and skills a student has mastered not just moving
through the curriculum. in a competency based system students can proceed at their own pace in every
subject enabling teachers to respond to individual needs, interest and challenges. So means that we let
the student learn own their own way and through that they could excel and that the teachers will only
check what the students need to improve, what the students are incline to do, what the student’s
difficulties in learning so clearly teacher’s role is to only facilitate.
Next is the 3rd principle Learning happen anytime, anywhere.

Students will often make important discoveries about themselves and the world around them, when
they learn beyond the traditional school day and outside the traditional school walls learning doesn’t
start and stop when the bells ring. So yes in the perspective we have in the old days, is that learning only
happen in school but today as the leaner centered learning is up, it promotes thought that in anytime
and anywhere we are sitiuated learning is there, anywhere we go we could learn information and
knowledge. So that is all possible as we are in the much open minded world, So learning is life long it
won’t stop unless you’re days in this world will be done.

Now let’s move on to last key principle, student takes ownership.

Teacher don’t make decision about students without students, so of course student still need the
guidance of their teacher but it is still up to the student. because Students play direct role in their own
success. Teacher should only be active in engaging with the process to ensure the impact of learning as
lasting and meaningful, so through that student centered learning will work. Also as to what Ma’am
Dadole stated last meeting the student in learner centered classroom should be independent and
autonomous so student could have their own way of learning for as long as they could genuinly learn
something and masters it to make them future ready. So that is why there are a lot of learning styles
because each student have unique way of learning and teachers are just at the back of the student to
assess and to assist.

So all of the four key principles must work together in order to have an effective learner centered
learning.
