Trade-Off Ratio Problems

This document discusses two trade-off ratio problems. The first problem provides mass and specific impulse values for two rocket stages and asks to calculate the trade-off ratios. The second problem gives mass and specific impulse values for the booster and first stage of a launch vehicle and asks to calculate the ideal burnout velocity at the end of the first stage burn.

Trade-off Ratio Problems

1/7
Problem No. 01

Consider a rocket with the following mass configuration.

m p1 = 21087kg ; ms1 = 1296kg ; I sp1 = 261s

m p 2 = 3854kg ; ms 2 = 360kg ; I sp 2 = 324s
m* = 668kg
Obtain the trade-off ratios.

Solution No. 01

The trade-off ratios are as follows.

Parallel Staging Problems

4/7
Problem No. 02

Consider the booster and first stage of PSLV, as defined

below.

m0 = 295T ; m p 0 = 9T ; ms 0 = 2T ; I sp1 = 262s; tb 0 = 44s

m p1 = 138T ; ms1 = 30T ; I sp 2 = 269s; tb1 = 105s

Assuming that there are 6 boosters and that all 6 boosters

and the first stage fire together, determine the ideal
burnout velocity at the end of the first stage burnout.

Solution No. 02

The solution at the end of 44s is as follows.

Solution No. 02

The solution at the end of 105s is as follows.
