Pneumatic Systems - Fluidsim: Task 1 Diverting Device
Pneumatic Systems - Fluidsim: Task 1 Diverting Device
FACULTY OF TECHNOLOGY
UNIVERSITY OF RUHUNA
Using FluidSIM software Design and Simulate the pneumatic circuit diagrams for the below given
mechanisms.
Task 1
Diverting Device
• Using a diverting device, parts are to be moved from one conveyer track onto the other in
a linear sequence.
• By operating a selector valve the oscillating piston rod of a cylinder pushes the turntable
via a pawl in stepped sequence.
• The parts are diverted and transported onwards in the opposite direction.
• By turning the selector valve back to the normal position, the drive unit is switched off.

Task 2
Clamping Device
A single acting cylinder with a large piston diameter is to clamp a workpiece following actuation
of a push button. The cylinder is to retract once the push button is released.
Task 3
Loading mesh baskets
In a loading station, mesh baskets are loaded with packages. In order to ensure that the
continuous flow of materials does not need to be paused at any time, the mesh baskets are placed
at two output points on a conveyor. When a mesh basket is full, the packages are directed to the
opposite output point by a deflector so that they can be transported away, and a new mesh basket
can be moved into position.

• When the pushbutton actuator is pressed, the piston rod on the cylinder advances and
pushes the deflector into the flow of materials.
• The piston rod remains in this position when the pushbutton actuator is released, and the
flow of materials are redirected.
• When a second pushbutton actuator is pressed, the piston rod moves back to the retracted
end position, allowing the flow of materials to return to the original output point.
• The piston rod remains in this position until the first pushbutton actuator is pressed again.
Observation Report
• You may find the observation sheet template in the LMS Moodle corresponding to the
today’s session.
• Use the given software FluidSIM to implement the systems.
• Fill out the necessary information and each of the Task using Snipping tool present in the
windows or using screen captures.
• Duly completed observation sheets need to be submitted at the end of the practical to the
submission link and only PDF format file is required.
• Submission link will be automatically closed at the end of the practical and submissions
after that will not be considered. So, use the last 15 minutes for submission process in order
to handle connection issues.
• Submissions via emails will not be accounted for the grading.
