Types and Uses of Cleaning
1 Materials and Disinfectants
It is important to know how to clean, sanitize, and disinfect dishes, utensils, and other
surfaces that may come in contact with the food being prepared. Part of food safety, cleaning,
sanitizing, disinfecting, and following proper procedures goes a long way toward preventing
foodborne illness.
For dishes or surfaces to be sanitized or disinfected, they must be clean first. This
means removing visible food, crumbs, or dirt from them.

Types and Uses of Cleaning Materials / Disinfectant
Cleaning agents are substances used to remove dirt, stains, bad odors, and clutters on
surfaces. The purpose of cleaning agents includes maintaining good health, removing offensive
odor, and avoiding the spread of grime and contaminants to self and other people. The main
purpose is to kill germs and sanitize at the same time.
