Semi-detailed Lesson Plan in Music Grade 4

I. Learning Objectives
At the end of 45-minute discussion, the pupils are expected to:
 Identify aurally and visually different instruments; and
 Classify the various musical instruments as string, woodwind, brass wind and
percussion.

II. Subject Matter

III. Procedure

A. Preliminary Activities
 Drill
The class will be divided into two groups. After the class is being divided, the
teacher will give them a preliminary activity with the use of PowerPoint
presentation, called “Recognize Me!” and each group will have to identify
each picture or sound being shown or played. The first group to raise their
hand(s) and state the name of their group will be recognized to answer. The
group who has most numbers of correct will be given a prize after the class.

B. Review
What was our topic yesterday?
What are the different music symbols?

C. Lesson Proper
Today we are going to find out different kinds (families) of instrument and classify
them according to their type.
Show the students different examples (picture) of instruments and let them identify
what is that instrument and let them classify it where they think the instrument belong to
according to their type.
Question: What is the name of this instrument?
What type of instrument do you think this instrument (show them the picture)
belong to?

D. Application
After the presentation, the class will be divided into 4. Each group will be given a
topic and different sets of pictures and what they have to do is that, each group has to arrange
the jumbled letters for each name of the instruments and they have to identify what type of
instruments they belong to. Each group will be given 15 minutes to finish the said activity.
The group that has the most correct answer will be hailed as winner and will be rewarded
after the class.

E. Generalization
The teacher will ask the students some questions.
Questions: What are the 4 types (families) of instruments?
Who can give an example of a string instrument? Woodwind? Brass Wind?
Percussion?
What is the difference among the 4 types (families) of instrument?

IV. Evaluation
Directions: Identify the following instruments according to their type. Write S if the
instrument belong to string instrument, W if woodwind, BW if Brass wind and P if
percussion. Write your answers in a ½ crosswise.

V. Assignment
Directions: Research about the four families of instruments and print out 3 examples for each
family in a short bond paper.
