BRIEF INTRODUCTION
Have you ever looked at the price of something? It is usually given as a
decimal. We use decimals everyday while dealing with money, weight, and length.
Decimal numbers are used in situations where more accuracy is required than the
whole numbers can provide.

As with whole numbers, sometimes you run into situations where you
need to multiply decimals. Multiplication is a building block of Math, so it is
important to be comfortable with.

Multiplication of decimals is one of the most frequently used operations

in our daily lives.

To multiply decimal up to 2 decimal places by 1-2-digit whole numbers:

1. write the factors in vertical form or in column.

2. multiply just like whole numbers;

• multiply each digit of the multiplicand with the multiplier.

• start from the hundredths, to the tenths and whole numbers.
• regroup if needed.
• Add the partial products.
3. Put the decimal point in the product.

• The number of decimal places in the product is equal to that of the

decimal places in the factors.
