1. What is the role of Science and Technology in your life? (Minimum of 300 words).
(20 pts)
Answer:
We all know science and technology are amazing as it enables us to connect with people around
the world and makes changes in everyday life in all aspect of humanity. But if we open our eyes and look
to the other side, technology and science is a nightmare, a pathway to ruined the future in which human
have become dependent on machines. In today’s life, science and technology where people always depend
on are continuously changing from waking up in the morning to the sound of an alarm clock set on one’s
mobile phones and social media in where you can easily communicate with other people. Our way of
living revolves around technology. On the other hand, some other people see this as a negative. They think
that science and technology taking our lives and preventing us from being independent. Whereas,
everything we use in our daily life is a major endowment of science and technology. It has made people
life easier up to great extent. This advancement contributes to almost every aspect of daily living.
Wherein, individuals get this chance to spend every minute on it.
As a human in a modern world, we’ve been here for so many years in which science and
technology continuously evolving, making information easily accessible, enhancing communication,
improving transportation, and the list goes on. As a part of the development, we believe that it always
depends on how people see science and technology as having a positive or negative impact on their lives,
we can’t blame and force people to believe that this advancement could help our life easier. If we could
open our eyes and see the importance of development in the lives of everyone it’s surprising, our
traditional way of living serves as a reminder that there’s no permanent in this world. Everything changed
for a reason, so be a good user to have a better future!
2. Find an image that depicts an issue or problem in science and technology. Then, answer
the following questions. (30 pts)
● What is the issue or problem depicted in the image?
Answer:
Behind those things that make people’s life easier, there’s an alarming result that has a big
impact on the health of everyone, a major environmental issue that could increase the risk for
early death. Some people didn’t fully aware of what will be the result of their negligence,
they just want to do wherever they wanted without giving care to others for them to fulfill
their imagination.
● How does this particular issue or problem impact the well-being of humans
today?
Answer:
Air pollution is everywhere, we do not see it, but it’s harming everyone’s health. In places,
with a high rate of air pollution, people tend to be at high risk of heart problems, the reason is
the amount of air pollution that people breathe every day is not helpful, if the air pollution is
toxic there’s a possible risk for developing cancer. The life of people is always connected to
our environment so when people didn’t do their responsibility and continue being irresponsible
our life will be at risk for somehow could lead to death.
● Why do people need to study and learn about STS as an academic field, especially
in addressing the issue or problem depicted in the image.
Answer:
Learning is a dynamic process in which people tend to learn more to broaden their knowledge
and understanding when it comes to discovering things, most especially in studying science
technology, and society. This lesson needs deep knowledge and requirements for human
survival because invention continuously evolves from basic to advance and enables to make
the life of a person easier. Studying this lesson will have a significant role in the lives of
people because it will bring appreciation and realization on what the scientist, inventor, and
researcher trying to portray when it comes to their invention. So why do people need to learn
this topic? it’s simply because we want to inform them that everything around this world uses
technology so being knowledgeable is much better than being ignorant. Through this study, it
will help people to distinguish the positive and negative impact of these things because
everything in this world is surrounded by technology.
