II. Rationale
The presence of the COVID-19 brings difficulties and changes to the different phases of the society.
It is considered as one of the potential barriers that worsen the environmental condition of each
place. According to RA 9003, ECOLOGICAL SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT ACT of
2000 says that in partnership with the stakeholders, the law aims to adopt a systematic,
comprehensive and ecological solid waste management program that shall ensure the protection
of public health and environment. The law ensures proper waste segregation, collection,
storage, treatment and disposal of solid waste through formulation and adaption of best eco-
waste products. Thus, burning of trash/garbage, throwing in the seas and in the canals
deteriorate the ozone layer and contribute to the climate change which harm the Earth. These
practices are what many people think convenient way without thinking the effects to us. Taking
into consideration the topographical location, either wide or limited in space, cleanliness must
be the topmost priority but in eco- friendly practices to lengthen the gratifying nature of the
present and the future.
So that, Tacdugan Elementary School supports Solid Waste Management which provides an
opportunity to learners, parents and other stakeholders to habitually practice a better and
simpler way of managing solid waste materials in the school premise and will also be extended
to the respective community without putting the nature at risks.
So, eSWIPE (Eliminate School’s Wastes through Intensified Practices for the
Environment) project of YES O teacher-adviser, is developed to eliminate the biodegradable
and non-biodegradable wastes scattering in the school premises. Through the initiatives of the
learners, teachers, parents and other stakeholders, will accept donations such as garbage bags
and sacks. These materials will be used to store and tightly packed up collected wastes until
rotten completely. The other purpose of these project is to make an organic fertilizer to the
school’s garden and also an additional soil to the school’s ground since it is situated in a low-
lying area where reached by the high tide.

On the other hand, this project allows building eco-friendly practices in the most convenient
way for learners, teachers, parents and community as an essential for establishing school-
family/community partnership that constitutes the foundation for all other forms of family
involvement in environmental education.
III. Project Objectives
1. Develop eco-friendly ways/practices to learners, teachers, parents and community.
2. Eliminate scattered wastes in the school premises.
3. Practice waste segregation.
4. Improve school’s performance and engagement in solid waste management.
5. Produce organic fertilizer and;
6. Contribute to the beautification of the school premise.

IV. Significance of the Project

Solid Waste Management is our shield to nature’s violent strike. Start teaching young
children to practice the simplest ways, is one significant attitude and skills that may be
applied until the rest of their lives. It can not only help younger generation to become an eco-
friendly but know how to preserve the nature for the future.
So as to the Tacdugan ES teaching and non-teaching staff, especially the teachers’
intentions to provide an environmental awareness among Tacdugan learners, parents and
community stakeholders in order to embark the value of the nature while at the same time
promotes healthy, safe and clean institution of learning, activates more knowledge to clientele
and maximize participation and partnerships.
The major results of this project should realize to increase learners, parents and
community stakeholders’ participation and complement the Environmental Program of the
school with the over-all implementation while upskilling the learners’ awareness towards
environment.

V. Project Benefits/Beneficiaries
As mentioned above, the target benefactors of the project are Tacdugan Learners,
Teachers, Parents and Community Stakeholders.
The project’s implementation will be headed by YES O teacher adviser together with
the YES O officers by monitoring every first week of the month. It will be followed by
planning, decision-making done every session through online platforms (GCs) and checking up
the collected wastes one by one to ensure it follows proper waste segregation.

VI. Project Description

This project requires monthly monitoring of teacher-advisers involved only since
YES O Officers are not yet allowed for face to face sessions. The teacher-adviser will check
up the collected wastes together with the GPP Coordinator, SPG teacher-adviser and YES O
Adviser. Based from the result of the monitoring, monthly session through GCs will be done.
The products of this project are: garbage bags, sacks, monitoring checklists for wastes
segregation, biodegradable and non-biodegradable labels and organic fertilizers.
