for Brigada Eskwela has been conceived of. This would be truly successful with the active
support and participation of important people such as the parents, alumni, barangay
officials, religious organizations and the like.

As we all know, most of the learners in any places of our country belong to poor families and
have greater possibility of dropping out in their basic education just because of hunger and
malnutrition in school besides, by helping their parents to earn a living. Furthermore, the health and
nutrition of these learners are crucial factor affecting their academic performance. Hence, our
government must do something in order to address this immortal educational issues once and for all.

Despite of the pandemic we are encountering at this moment, let us educate the learners
through the help of their parents and other stakeholders the methods of sustainable production of
food such as vegetable production and consumption which are applicable to their homes.
Furthermore, this will also teach them with the following; learning where food comes from,
promoting beautification, producing food, encouraging leadership and services.

As a matter of fact, these livelihood skills that the learners will acquire from the school can
also applied and replicated in their respective households. Thus, by making foods more accessible to
all households that will certainly contribute to improve the health and Nutritional status of the
learners.
III. Project Description
Under the K to 12 in basic education, the Department of Education (DepEd) in the Philippines
creates children’s awareness about production of more food on the table, through vegetable gardening within
the scope of Home Economics and Livelihood Education (HELE) subjects in the elementary and the
Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) subjects in the high school, in order to nurture resiliency and
sustainability of scarce resources in localized and contextualized ways. The awareness on sustainable
development increases the need for children’s protein requirement to eat vegetables in order to be healthy,
without buying them in the market; but relying on the bounty of their own school vegetable gardens. The
Department of Education (DEPED) and the Department of Agriculture (D.A) collaborated to help to reduce
high hunger and malnutrition incidence by enhancing their capability to produce their own food in the
school and through adoption of integrated backyard gardening

The Gulayan sa Paaralan Project shall be implemented in all public elementary and secondary
schools with ample and limited areas within the municipality of Tagbina using the organic gardening
technologies like bio-intensive gardening. The said schools will be provided with gardening tools and
vegetable seedlings. In line with this program, a GPP Task Force or Committee will be the one to conduct
the advocacy, orientation, and distributions of materials, monitoring and evaluation. There must be a
seminar – workshop that will be conducted prior to the distribution of gardening tools and vegetables
seedlings to ensure that everything is in accordance with the scope of this program and above all, for
effective implementation.
