Unit 2: Introduction to Melody

II. MELODY

Lesson 1: Tone
TONE

a sound having definite pitch. The pitch may be high, low or medium pitch.

Activity 1
Write HP for high pitch and LP for low pitch.
Lesson 2: Staff

A Staff is composed of five lines and four spaces. Clefs, notes, rests and other musical symbols

are written on the staff to create different sounds.

II. THE ART ELEMENTS


Lesson 1: Lines

Line is an extension of a point in any direction. Lines come in different ways. Some lines are
staraight, others are curved.

Actvity 8
Fill up every letter with different kinds of straight lines using colored pencils or crayons.
Curved Lines are the opposite of staight lines. These lines are bent. There are different kinds of
curved lines and these are:

Fill up the bottle jar with different kinds of curves lines using colored pencils. Do this side by
side.
Lesson 2: Shapes

Shapes are formed when spaces are enclosed by lines. When shapes are put together, an object is
formed.

Forms are three dimensional shapes. They have height, depth, width, volume and mass.

Intermediate Colors are the result of mixing 1 primary color with 1 secondary color like:

Unit 2: Looking at your Personal Space

II. SPACE AWARENESS

Lesson 1: Space

YOUR PERSONAL SPACE

Your personal space is a place where you able to make movements without touching
others like swaying arms or jumping in place.
In the previous lesson, you learned about locomotor movements. Some of these
locomotor movements can be done in your personal space like walking, running or jumping.

Activity 13

1. Find your personal space inside the classroom, execute some locomotor movements you can
do for 10 minutes. Talk about the activity and share you reasons why you chose to do the
movement that you did.

2. Choose a partner and do the following:

 walk
 jump high for 5 counts
 jump low for 10 counts
General Space

General space is a large space where you are able to move without touching, bumping or pushing
others.
Activity 14

1. Teacher marks a large circle with a chalk as the play area. Pupils will march, jog and hop
inside this circle without touching, bumping or pushing each other.

2. Teacher plays music that the children can sing while doing this activity to make it more
enjoyable.
The Basic Directions

It is important to follow directions in whatever we do. This enables us to develop skills to


execute movements in physical education smoothly without injuing ourselves and others.

Activity 15
1. Group yourselves by five.

Do movements in different directions like:

 running forward
 walking forward
 walking backward

2. Do the following:

a) run in place – 10 counts


run around the general space – 10 counts
b) jump low in place – 5 counts
jump high in place – 5 counts
c) run forward – 10 counts
run backward – 10 counts

LET US PLAY BALL!


Most games are a combination of doing different movements and following directions.
Playing games help develop speed, balance, strenghth and flexibility.

Activity 16

Divide the class into 4 groups.


A. Two groups face each other 5-8 meters apart. The front player throws the ball while the
opposite player catches and rolls it towards the next player in front. Once through, they exchange
positions.

B. The font player runs and dribbles the ball to the end line then returns to the starting line and
passes the ball to the next player. The group that finishes first wins the game.

Lesson 1: Visiting the Doctor Regularly


VISITING THE DOCTOR REGULARLY

To stay healthy and keep our body safe from sickness or diseases, we must take the time
to visit our doctor for regular check-ups.

The doctor checks our body to make sure it is in good condition. He gives us medecine
when we feel sick and gives us the vitamins to keep us strong and healthy.

Lesson 2: Being Physically Clean

Being Physically Clean


Cleanliness means being free from all kinds of dirt and germs.

Keeping our body clean everyday helps prevent diseases. Germs that cause diseases are active
when you are dirty. To avoid germs you must:

1. Take a bath everday


2. Use soap for bathing and washing
3. Always wash your hands and feet
4. Change your clothes and underwear everyday
5. Trim your fingernails and toenails regularly.
6. Comb your hair properly.
7. Always keep your nose and ears clean.
8. Always brush your teeth after every meal.
9. Urinate once you feel it.
10. Move your bowel everyday.
11. Always cover your nose and mouth with clean handkerchief when you cough or sneeze.

Lesson 3: Having Good and Sleep

Our body needs good rest and sleep everyday to keep us healthy and strong. We cannot
do our daily activities properly without having enough rest and having a good night’s sleep.

When we are well rested, we can:

Lesson 4: Observing Correct Postures

OBSERVING CORRECT POSTURES

Posture is the way of carrying our body when we perform our daily activities.
Having correct body posture affects our physical appearance. It allows our body to move
gracefully and with ease.

It makes us look good and confident to join different kinds of activities like dancing, performing
in stage plays, and choral singing.

Correct body posture should always be maintained while standing, sitting and walking.
