● Auto CAD: AutoCAD is a commercial computer-aided design (CAD)
and drafting software application. Developed and marketed by
Autodesk, AutoCAD was first released in December 1982 as a
desktop app running on microcomputers with internal graphics
controllers.
● Free CAD: FreeCAD is an open-source, customizable 3D modeler that
helps users in mechanical engineering and product design. Designed
as a scriptable CAD solution, the software allows users to manage
architectural and electrical design functions.
● Libre CAD: LibreCAD is an open source computer-aided design
software (CAD) product that enables you to create detailed 2D CAD
blueprints and floorplans. A fully featured design toolkit generates
in-depth projects and helps you add layers to modify your work to
your exact specifications.
● Solid works: is used to develop mechatronics systems from
beginning to end. At the initial stage, the software is used for
planning, visual ideation, modeling, feasibility assessment,
prototyping, and project management. The software is then used for
design and building of mechanical, electrical, and software elements
● Fusion 360: Fusion 360 is 3D modeling software which deals with
different types of designing works of Computer-aided design (CAD),
Computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), Computer-aided Engineering
(CAE), and Printed circuit board (PCB) also and it is one of the
products of Autodesk.
● Open SCAD: OpenSCAD is a free software application for creating
solid 3D computer-aided design (CAD) objects. It is a script-only
based modeller that uses its own description language; parts can be
previewed, but cannot be interactively modified by mouse in the 3D
view.
● Archicad: Archicad is an architectural BIM CAD software for
Macintosh and Windows developed by the Hungarian company
Graphisoft. Archicad offers computer aided solutions for handling all
common aspects of aesthetics and engineering during the whole
design process of the built environment — buildings, interiors, Etc.
● Draft sight: DraftSight is a 2D and 3D CAD solution that can create,
edit, view and markup any DWG file with greater ease, speed and
efficiency.
● Onshape: Onshape is a cloud-based computer-aided design (CAD)
software. Using web-based servers, software users can collaborate
on a single model, editing and interacting at the same time. The
program is intended for many industries looking to design products,
machine parts, industrial equipment, etc.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CAM AND CAD

● CAD refers to Computer aided design while CAM reffers to Computer
aided manufacturing
● CAD is also known as computer aided drafting while CAM is also
known as Computer aided modeling
● CAD software is mostly used by Engineers while CAM is mostly used
by mechanist
● CAD is more precise, comfortable to use, and aids in quick drafting
while CAM helps in implementing automation in the method of
manufacturing
● CAD is used for creating 2D and 3D drawing models, while CAM is to
machining process through 3D model
● CAD is used of computer in order to develop modify and analyse the
design, while CAM is the use of computer software in order to handle
machine tools used in the manufacturing of modules.
SIMILARITIES BETWEEN CAD AND CAM

● CAD/CAM applications are used to both design a product and
program manufacturing processes, specifically, CNC machining.
● CAD / CAM software and technologies have made the whole design,
development, prototype process easy, faster, and most certainly less
costly.
