CREST 2023
Overview
The aim of CREST 2023 (2nd International Conference on Construction Resources for Environmentally Sustainable
Technologies) is to disseminate information and exchange ideas on issues related to natural disasters and disasters
associated with anthropogenic activities, as well as to provide solutions through the use of alternative resources,
disruptive technologies and soft type disaster mitigation measures for building a sustainable and resilient society
from the perspective of geoengineering.
The rst symposium of the CREST series, CREST 2020, could be successfully organized during March 9-11, 2021, at
Kyushu University, Fukuoka, Japan in online format due to Covid-19 pandemic. The overwhelming support that we
have received towards CREST 2020 from the academia, industry, and government organizations, was a matter of
great encouragement for the organizing committee. It has therefore, been decided to hold the second conference of
the CREST series as CREST 2023 in a face-to-face format.
The themes of CREST 2023 conference cover broad range of interdisciplinary areas af rming to The Sendai
Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction that has set speci c priorities for action to prevent new and reduce existing
disaster risks. One of the key priority is for enhancing disaster preparedness for effective response and to “Build
Back Better” in recovery, rehabilitation and reconstruction. And this includes integrating disaster risk reduction into
development measures, thereby making nations and communities resilient to future disasters.
Moreover, in the face of increasing trend of climate change induced natural disasters, governments around the world
have adopted more stringent environmental policies to reduce emissions and carbon footprints. Therefore, as
engineers, researchers and policy makers, who are working with the resource-intensive construction industry, it is
also our duty to contribute towards a sustainable and disaster resilient society.
In a rapidly changing world, we can achieve these through the innovative use of resources and their by-products
along with smart and innovative digital technologies such as AI, BIM, CIM, DX and IoT in construction. Innovative
resource optimization helps in reducing environmental load of construction activities while digital technologies
reduce inef ciencies during the design and construction phases, as well as helps in continuous monitoring of system
performance throughout its design life and reducing the risk of damage in the event of disasters.

Goal of the conference

The conference aims to bring together engineers, researchers, scientists and policy makers from around the world
under one umbrella for debates and discussions on wide range of interdisciplinary themes mentioned in this bulletin.
The conference focuses on commitment to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) No. 9, No. 11, No. 13 and No. 17
by promoting new ideas and innovations in infrastructure design, construction and maintenance, as well as policy
making and implementation with the aim of contributing to climate change adaptation and disaster resilience.

Call for papers

The organizing committee of CREST 2023 invites all interested authors to submit abstracts on the conference
themes. The abstract should be of maximum 400 words in .docx and .pdf format via online submission system of the
conference. All the abstracts will be reviewed by the technical committee of CREST 2023 and, if accepted, the authors
will be asked to submit an extended abstract (2 or 4 pages) and a full-length paper (8 or 10 pages). The extended
abstract proceedings will be provided to the delegates during the conference, while the full-length papers will be peer
reviewed and published as proceedings by Springer Nature as a series publication. The authors can register for the
conference after the acceptance of full-length paper. The submission guidelines and templates for abstract,
extended abstract and full-length paper will be provided on the conference website. Young scientists and
researchers will be rewarded for the best presentations and the best papers. Special issue of selected papers will be
published in eminent journals of geotechnical, geo-environmental and sustainable development elds.
