The Concepts of Community and Environmental Health
1. Cross out all the words that consist of five letters or less.
2. Cross out all the words that begin with the letter S.
3. Cross out all the contractions (for example, cannot).

In this activity, you will find out the characteristics of an ideal and healthy community.
Directions: Draw a happy face on the descriptions that shows a healthy characteristic of a community and a sad
face on the unhealthy one. Please use a separate sheet of paper.
Analysis:
1. What does the message tell you?
2. Is a healthy community important? Why or why not?
3. What characteristic of a community is ideal for you?
4. How can you make your community an ideal one?
Abstraction:
Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not just the absence of disease or
infirmity. It leads to a socially and economically productive life.
A community is defined as a sociological group in a large place sharing one environment. It includes the individual
and the family.
Community Health is defined as the art and science of maintaining, protecting, and improving the health of all the
members of the community through organized and sustained community efforts.
Environmental Health comprises those aspects of human health that are determined by physical, chemical,
biological, social, and psychological factors in the surrounding environment.
Divide the class into 4 groups. Learners will perform different tasks about community and
environmental health. They will be given 15 minutes to prepare.
Group 1 – Role play about a healthy community and environment
Group 2 – Report about 5 possible services/ activities observed in your community to
attain a clean and safe physical environment
Group 3 – Write an essay about a community that participates in identifying local
solutions to local problems
Group 4 – Compose a song or rap about the benefits of a healthy community

healthy community in column A. Choose your answer from the box. Write the letter of your answer on a separate
sheet of paper.
