ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

The researcher would like to express their deepest gratitude to their groupmates.
This research would not be possible without their efforts and the support of their
parents. The researchers would also like to thank the grade 11 students for
answering the questionnaire given to them. And most especially to our dear Lord
Jesus Christ who gives us the strength and knowledge to do this research
successfully.
DEDICATIONS

The researchers would like to dedicate this study to our most high Lord Jesus for
giving us the knowledge and strength to push through this research, to our
supportive families and friends, to our Alma Mater-the Labinay National High
School and also to our classmates and teachers.
CHAPTER 1

RATIONALE: THE PROBLEM AND ITS SCOPE

“Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who
prepare for it today" The quote that really made us realize what to do and offer our
best to be successful in the near future.

As we all know, a school that has many rules is wearing the assigned school
uniform. Wearing school uniform is a common and simple rule that needs to be followed in a
school. When we talked about uniform-related policy, the first thing that comes to our mind is
discipline. It brings a great impact in bringing the name of the school It reflects how disciplined
and responsible the students are in doing their obligations. We are aware that each school has
dress codes to be followed. But nowadays, we observe that not all students are following this
very simple rule. Students who follow rules can really say that they care for the school. And
these students wearing school uniforms are very much appreciated, very neat and clean
committed to doing and following the simple rule of the school. But sad to say, we cannot avoid
negative issues. These negatives are referring to the students who do not follow even just
the simple rules of a school. These are the students who like to wear t-shirts, especially colored
t-shirts. People who witness those students who like to wear shirts, especially colored t-shirts
find it cool and attractive but others also find it destructive in their eyes. Each student who
wears uniforms and t-shirts has their own different perceptions and different reasons why they
wear these kinds of clothes. Other students say they don't feel comfortable wearing a uniform,
others say they don't have a uniform, others just want to be noticed, and many other reasons.
But inspite of those acceptable and unacceptable reasons, all people whether a teacher,
students, or whoever it is, all learn to follow rules.
According to the United Kingdom in the 16th century, school uniforms are
believed to be a practice. It is believed that the Christ Hospital School in London in 1552 was
the
first school to use a school uniform. Students were given a school uniform that consisted of a
long sleeve, a blue coat, and yellow knee-high socks. The earliest documented proof of
institutionalized use of a standard academic dress dates to 1222 when the archbishop of
Canterbury ordered the wearing of CappaClausa. This monastic and academic practice evolved
into collegiate uniforms in England.

Although school uniforms can be considered conservation old fashion, uniforms

in recent years have changed as societal dress codes have changed. School uniforms were
introduced in the United States somewhere around 1979, to tackle violence among students
who fought for designer clothes. The uniform-was-in-school policy was effectively implemented
by President Clinton who wanted to stop gangs in school. Statistical reports state that only 25%
of primary schools and around 10% of secondary schools in the United States have strictly
implemented the uniform policy. The idea of a standardized dress code was adopted by the
Cambridge University right from the 13th century. Though it was met with staunch opposition
from the students, the academic code gradually acquired a status symbol.
Statement of the Problem

The researchers want to know and discover each student's perceptions among
the usage of the school uniform and the reasons why they do not wear uniforms.

1. The profile of the respondents in terms of:

Age:

Gender:

2. Frequency of school uniform usage.

3. Reasons of use or not wearing the school uniform.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This study will be significant to the following individuals:

STUDENTS. Students will be aware importance it is to follow rules even if it is just

a simple rule. And they will know what might be the effects that could affect the
school. So that they will be more responsible and careful in their every action.

TEACHERS. Teachers will understand and know the reasons and perceptions of
each student regarding school uniforms.

PARENTS. Parents will also be able to know why their children wear a t-shirt
instead of uniforms. It will be easy for them to encourage their children to wear
school uniforms.

COMMUNITY. Communities will gladly appreciate and praise the students,

teachers, and the school.

RESEARCHERS. Researchers will also have the knowledge and idea of

understanding each student’s perceptions and reasons about school uniforms. And
they will be aware of how school uniforms can affect in bringing the name of the
school.

RESPONDENTS. Respondents will be aware and will know how important it is

to follow rules in school including the wearing of the school uniform which can
give an impact on bringing the name and reputation of the school.

CHAPTER 2
REVIEW ON RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDENT'S

In this chapter, we will be discussing the background of our study. It includes facts
about school uniforms and reasons why students do not wear uniforms. From reliable
materials like online journals and papers, we will provide some acts and theories from
authors teachers, and notable people to have factual justification for our study. Being a
student, it is his/her obligation to follow rules in school. One of these is the wearing
school
uniform. This study aims to explore and discover the student’s perceptions of the usage
of
school uniforms and their reasons why they do not wear uniforms. This simple rule of
school carries a lot of responsibilities in bringing the name of a school. It is where we see
how responsible, dedicated, and well-aware the students are in doing their obligation as
an individual.

Manila Philippines- the proposal of incoming Rodrigo Duterte to remove the

mandatory requirement for public school students to wear school uniforms is already an
existing policy of the Department of Education (DepEd). Former president Gloria
Macapagal-Arroyo instructed then the education secretary Jesli Lapus in 2008 to issue
two
department orders that removed the mandatory requirement for school uniforms in all
public elementary and high schools. Quezon City Philippines (October 2008), should
they
wear by the students?
An organization in the United States that aims to let people understand the pros and cons
of wearing school uniforms, ProCon.Org, says that traditionally favored by private and
parochial instructions, school uniforms are being adopted by US public schools
increasing
members. Almost one in five US public schools required students to wear school
uniforms
during the 2011-2012 school years, up from one to eight in 2003-2004. Mandatory
uniform policies in public schools are found in more communities in high-poverty areas,
And lastly, in 1998, The Journal of Educational Research (JER) published an article by
D. Brusma and K. Rockquemore claim that uniforms correlate with academic
achievement.

CHAPTER 5
SUMMARY OF FINDINGS, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

FINDINGS:

The researchers came up the following results:

It was found out of 30 respondents 26 or 87% are males 4 or 13% are females.
There
are respondents ages 14,15,16,17 and 18 Many of the respondents say that their
perception of the school uniform is that it is comfortable to wear. Sone says they are
more comfortable wearing t-shirts especially colored t-shirts rather than school
uniforms.
More respondents say that they wear school uniforms twice a week. And other
respondents say that they have 2 sets of school uniforms. Lastly, all the respondents
agree that school uniform is strictly implemented in the school.

CONCLUSION:

Based on the findings, it is concluded that the grade 11 students really have
different
perceptions of the usage of the school uniform. There are 22 or 73% of the
respondents
agree that school uniform is comfortable to wear. Those students who do not
follow rules will make some little progress after reading these many discussions on
the
issue of this research and will become more responsible and obedient.
RECOMMENDATION:

Based on the findings the following recommendations are given:

To the students. They must know their responsibilities as a student, must be aware
of their obligation, and must be careful of their actions that might affect the school.

To the teachers. They must encourage the students to wear school uniforms every
day because it is very good in the eyes.

To the parents. They must also encourage and discipline their children to wear
school uniform because it is very neat and clean to see.

To the Prefect of Discipline. They must also take to take charge of those students
who do not wear school uniforms.

To the principal. He/she must give punishment to students who do not follow rules
and those students who do not wear school uniform.
