CONTEN STANDARD: The learner demonstrates understanding of: Philippine


literature during the Period of Apprenticeship as means of examining conflicts;
various purposeful listening and viewing strategies; differences between literal and
figurative language; ways to extract and condense information based on liberty
sources; verbal and non-verbal cues in oral communication; and types of phrases,
clauses, and sentences.
PERFORMANCE STANDARD: The learner transfers learning by: resolving conflicts
presented in literary selections; using tools and mechanisms in locating liberty
resources; extracting information and noting details from texts to write a precise,
summary, or paraphrase; distinguishing between and using literal and figurative
language and verbal and non-verbal cues; use phrases, clauses, and sentences
meaningfully and appropriately.
LEARNING COMPETENCY: EN7F-II-a-4: Use verbal and non-verbal cues in
communications.

a) Define verbal and non-verbal communication;
b) Identify the different forms and/or types of verbal and nonverbal
communication;
c) Perform an activity that involve two types of communication; and,
d) Cite the importance of communication in humanity.

E. Key Concept: Communication is the process of sending and receiving
messages through verbal and non-verbal means so that the conveyed
message is received and understood with clarity and purpose.

Motivation
Okay class, before we proceed to our new
topic for today, let us have a motivational
task; thus, I named it “I Challenge you!”

Stay tune, relax and attentive because we


are about to commence.

Scenario/Instruction:

Our topic for today is about verbal and non-
verbal communication. But first let’s have the
learning objectives to help and guide us
throughout the lesson.
OBJECTIVES:
a) Define verbal and non-verbal
communication;
b) Identify the different forms and/or
types of verbal and nonverbal
communication;
c) Perform an activity that involve two
types of communication; and,
d) Cite the importance of
communication in humanity.

D. Discussion
Now in your own opinion what is Ma’am, communication is the exchanging of
communication? thoughts, ideas, feeling, etc. between
ourselves or the people around.
Precisely! Thank you for that answer!

Now there are two types of communication,


the verbal and non-verbal communication.
Let me discuss the first one.

Verbal communication – refers to the use


of sounds and words for communication
purposes.

Example: Saying “No!” when someone ask


you to do something you don’t want.

Now there are Two form of verbal


communication:
1. Oral communication- includes all
types of communication that uses
speaking.

2. Written communication- includes


writing, typing, or printing symbols
like numbers to convey
information and/or ideas.

Non-verbal communication- refers to an


interaction where behavior is used to convey
and represent meanings.

Types of Non-verbal Communication:


1. Facial Expression
2. Gestures
3. Proximity
4. Touch
5. Eye contact

So those are the six types. Is it understood? Yes, ma’am!

Glad to hear that!

Nevertheless, I have here the easiest way


for you to be able to remember those six
types, just remember the word FAGEPTEA.

E. Application
We’ve come now to the one of the exciting
parts where your learnings will be tested and
engaged.

Instruction:
 The class will be divided into two (The student’s activity and presentation may
groups. vary guided by the rubric)
 Group 1 shall present a verbal
communication scenario.
 Group 2 shall present a non-verbal
communication scenario.
 Each group is instructed to prepare
within 2 minutes for the final output
and a maximum of 20 to 40 seconds
for presentation.
