Software Installation
The Dealer Programming Software supports operation of both EPIRB and PLB Programmer
Interface Types. It is therefore only necessary to install the program once even if both interface
types are to be used.
1. BEFORE connecting the Programmer Interface to your PC you must install the provided
software. If you connect the adapter first Windows may attempt to load an inappropriate
generic driver; which will then have to be removed before operation of this kit.
2. Insert the CD ROM into your computer drive. The installation process will normally launch
automatically. If it does not, manually run the install.bat file on the CD.
3. Follow the on-screen prompts and install all software. For systems running Microsoft XP you
may be advised that the software is not Microsoft certified and asked if you wish to proceed.
Click ‘Continue Anyway’ in all instances.
4. Remove the CD ROM from your drive and place it back into its protective case. Store in a
safe place.
5. Double click on the program icon which has been placed on your desktop.
6. In the bottom left corner of the program window you will notice that the Programmer Interface
is identified as ‘Not Present’

7. Use the USB cable supplied to connect the Programmer Interface to the PC. Wait a moment
whilst your system automatically identifies that a Programmer Interface is ‘Present’.

It is advisable to plug the Programmer Interface directly into a free USB port on your
computer. Use of an un-powered USB hub is not recommended as power is shared between
devices and may be insufficient to ensure reliable operation of your Programmer Interface.

Configuring Software Preferences

1. Choose OPTIONS>PREFERENCES at the top left corner of the program window.
2. The GENERAL TAB enables you to specify the directories where files generated by this
program will be stored on your PC’s hard drive. These options can be changed at any time
but files already stored will remain in their original directory location.
3. The CONNECTION TAB enables you to:
- Specify the data rate with which the software communicates with the beacon. The
beacon and software must both use the same rate to successfully communicate.
4800 is the default rate and is required for all but a very limited number of early model
beacons (which use 9600).
- Select the number of times that the software will attempt to establish communications
with the beacon. The default ‘3’ is more than sufficient during normal operation. If a
beacons optical interface is badly scuffed, temporarily increasing the number of retries
may help.
- Enable ‘Link Time’ and you can enter an extended duration (in seconds) over which
the Software to Beacon communications link will remain active before timing out.
- Enable Beeping and your PC will emit a regular and audible beep whilst the
communications link with a beacon is active.

Programming and Reading Beacon Information

Your Dealer Programming Kit will automatically identify the type and model of beacon present,
and only display options which are relevant to that unit.
NOTE: If you possess both an EPIRB and PLB Programmer Interface connect ONLY that
interface applicable to the beacon type currently being programmed. When changing
between EPIRB & PLB Programmer Interface restart the Dealer Programming Software.
You will need to have a Programmer Interface and Beacon present and connected to move
forward through the various programming steps. Follow all on screen prompts and instructions.
IMPORTANT: It is the operator’s responsibility to ensure that the information being
entered into the beacon is correct and appropriate. Some Countries, National Authorities
and Organisations impose special requirements on the programming of beacons.

Other Information
1. It is strongly recommended that a Brother P-touch PT-2420PC label printer be acquired.
This software and the PT-2420PC can effortlessly produce durable laminated labels to be
directly affixed to the programmed beacon. The following types are most suitable; EPIRB
12mm Black on White TZ-231 (or TZ-S231), and for PLB 6mm White on Black TZ-315.
2. Visit Brother’s website www.brother.com for product details and retailers in your region.
Whilst other approaches are possible it has been observed that the common practice of
applying a clear film over a printed paper label often fails to achieve an acceptable level of
durability (resistance to fading, adhesion, etc).
3. Updates to this software are available to approved dealers via the GME website. To apply for
access, please register at http://www.gme.net.au/support/register.php.
