Math 8 Q4 Week 6
Competency:
The learner illustrates an experiment, outcome, sample space and event. M8GE-IVf-1
To the Learners:
Before starting this module, set aside other tasks that will disturb you in
studying the lesson.
Read the instructions below to successfully enjoy the objectives of this kit. Have
fun!
1. Follow carefully the contents and instructions indicated on every page of the
module.
2. Write in your notebook the concepts of the lessons. Remember, writing enhances
learning. Keep that in mind.
4. Let your facilitator/guardian assess your answers using the answer key card.
5. Analyze conceptually the post-test and apply what you have learned.
6. Enjoy studying!
Expectations
After going through this module, you are expected to illustrate an experiment,
outcome, sample space .

MATHEMATICS 8 QUARTER 4 WEEK 6
Pre-test
Choose the letter of the correct answer. Write the chosen letter on a separate sheet of
paper.
From your previous lesson, you have learned the different key concepts of
inequalities in a triangle, and parallel and perpendicular lines. It enables you to
communicate mathematical thinking with coherence and clarity in formulating,
investigating, analyzing, and solving real-life problems involving triangle inequalities,
and parallelism and perpendicularity of lines using appropriate and accurate
representations.

MATHEMATICS 8 QUARTER 4 WEEK 6
Introduction of the Topic
In this module, you will learn more about the basic concepts in probability and
the different methods in writing the number of occurrences of an outcome of an
experiment.
In nature, there are lots of occurrences like tossing a coin or rolling a die, or to
simple things like “will it rain today?” whose results cannot be predicted with certainty
or conviction in advance, but the set of all the possible outcomes or result is known to
us.
There are certain terms that you need to clarify its meaning before you go any further.
Examples:
1. Tossing of coin

MATHEMATICS 8 QUARTER 4 WEEK 6
2. Rolling a die
3. Spinning of a Wheel
Sample space (S) is the set of all the possible outcomes or sample points of an
experiment.
“King” is not a sample point because there are four Kings in the deck of 52
cards which are four (4) different sample points. King of Hearts is a one of these
sample points.

MATHEMATICS 8 QUARTER 4 WEEK 6
Event (E) is any set of one or more outcomes satisfying some given conditions.
Examples:
1. Tossing a coin
Experiment - tossing a coin
Sample space – {H, T}
3. Rolling a Die
Experiment - rolling a die
Sample space – {1 , 2, 3, 4, 5, 6}
The event (E) that an even number is obtained = { 2 , 4 , 6}
Activities
1. a Head (H)
2. Head (H), Tail (T)
3. 75%
4. Queen of Diamond
5. Getting 2 in a roll of a die
6. Flipping a 5-peso coin
7. Guessing the marble of red marble in a box
8. The result of tossing two dice simultaneously

9. Choosing an ACE from a deck of standard cards
10. A chance process which leads to well-defined results
An experiment consists of rolling a die. List the sample points in each of the following:
1. The sample space
2. The event that an odd number shows up
3. The event that a number greater than 2 shows up
Activity 3: In a Box!
A box contains the letters of the English alphabet. A letter is picked at random from
the box. Write the sample points in each of the following.
Remember
A. The following are the basic concepts in probability:
1. Experiment is a chance process that leads to a well-defined result.
2. Outcome is the result of single trial of an experiment.
3. Sample space is the set of all the possible outcomes or sample points.
4. Sample point is just one of the possible outcomes.
5. Event is any set of one or more outcomes satisfying some given conditions.
1. Althea is answering a 10-item quiz all of which are multiple choices. List the
possible answers for item number 1.
2. Before leaving home, Kristian packed his bag with the essentials he needs for the
new normal. Below are the items on his bag:
a. alcohol
b. hand sanitizer

MATHEMATICS 8 QUARTER 4 WEEK 6
c. surgical mask/ medical mask
d. wrist watch
e. baby powder
f. cologne
g. face shield
h. notebook
4. The school prepares the students for disasters that may come along while they are
in school or at home. They should be prepared with a survival kit bag which is
shown below
List a sample space of the things inside the survival kit bag. Mention at least 7
things.
Post-test
Choose the letter of the correct answer. Write the chosen letter on a separate sheet of
paper.

5. The result of an experiment is called a/an___________.
A. event
B. outcome
C. sample point
D. sample space
Additional Activities
Reflection
This activity will enable you to reflect about the topic and activities you
underwent. Reflect on the activities that you have done in this lesson by completing
the flowing statements. Write your answers on your e – journal and send it to your
teacher.
