Activity No.30: Youth Programs Reflection

Instruction: Make a reflection on the programs of the youth. Used the guide questions in making your reflection.

Reflection Questions:

1. What have you discovered about the youth programs?

I have discovered that there are different types of youth programs and each of them are different and special in
their own ways. They ought to focus on one youth issue and make it as their objective in aiding such youth
issue, For instance, Dangerous Drug Abuse prevention is aimed to fight substance abuse through the tool of
hotline as means of communication along with confidentiality, Whereas the SBMA or Saint Brother Miguel
Academy uses physical assistance rather than digital assistance like the Dangerous drug abuse prevention
program. I am part of the Saint Brother Miguel Academy program as one of the teachers and our goal is to be
able to help children attain free education that has the value of holistic teachings and upholding the right set of
values. There are many different programs that I am not that aware of which helped me be more in one with my
own community and have societal knowledge and awareness relevant in creating a change in society.

2. What areas of yourself do you believe require improvement in light of the youth program discussion?

I believe that I need to have stronger awareness of the struggles of my peers. I feel like I am too selfish and do
not even give them even 30 minutes of my day to understand them better and know why such issues occur. I
focus more on myself not knowing that my peers may be struggling with youth issues already. I may be already
joining programs such as the SBMA but It is not enough to simply act if we do not feel it in our hearts and it is
not enough to merely feel it upon in our hearts and not act upon it. There must be a connection between our
minds, hearts and souls. I also need to attain solid ground or a very stable foundation of mental health along
with morality or core values. This is because I believe this will help me assist those who are in need in a moral
and righteous approach . Thus, I believe that I need a stronger mental health because we cannot defy the fact
that sometimes problems may bring out negativity within ourselves. Sometimes what we experience shapes our
outer personality causing others to be negative and may do some things that they do not mean in order to push
people away. If I were those people who ought to help others, I need a strong mental health in understanding
them better and having patience prior to what they are going through.

3. How does this lesson make you as a learner more aware?

This lesson made me more aware through being relatable and rampant in our society. I realized that it surrounds
me all along and I have just turned blind eye or just did not care enough to know the deeper meaning of things.
For instance, I thought that the 4p’s program is simply a program to donate money to everyone. I even thought
of applying for my own personal benefit not knowing that it was for the people that are in need. . This helped
me know about what my peers are going through and it also made me aware of how societal issues are timeless.
It could happen even in a young age up until you”re an adult and as you grow even older. It made me aware of
what each person may face in their lives and how each struggle is valid including mental health. This is
because, I used to often think that mental health is something intrapersonal and it is something that must not be
shared to others but rather kept to yourself. It is a battle you must face yourself. In a way, It is. However, You
do not have to do it alone. There are many people that struggle with it and there are a lot of people willing to
help. You do not have to face it alone. This made me more aware of the solutions and the essence of unity in
relation to youth issues in the community. One person is not enough to truly change the world. It needs to be
us, The entirety of people who care for the world just as much as the do for themselves.

As a Lasallian what youth initiative would you wish to start, and why?

A youth initiative that I wish to implement would be for the peers who struggle with anxiety and depression. I
would start this initiative because I believe that we ought to address the brokenness hidden away in each other's
facades. I want to create an initiative that would be a safe haven for the people that think they are lost and want
to find somewhere to find a friend. In this initiative, They are offered genuine friendship and solidarity. Calm
music and a gentle approach. If you feel like your world is turning upside down, You can go to this youth
program in order to prevent the spread and the further extension of negative thoughts that may turn into
something much worse such as depression. I know a lot of peers that deal with anxiety, I am also one of those. I
want to create this initiative in order to help others and guide others that are dealing with the same thing. We
often don't know what to do or what to think when we are going through panic attacks. We do not understand
ourselves and our own triggers. There are many different derivatives of anxiety and different ways to cope. We
all cope differently. Through this initiative, We can guide the youth on how cope and how to aid such negativity
in their lives in prevention of attaining severity of depression and anxiety,

5. What may others discover about your youth program if you develop one?

What they can discover about my youth program if I am to develop one is the value of unity , the value of
compassion and empathy. With my youth program, Those who struggle will be welcomed and they will be
given the opportunity to realize that they are not alone, They are not invalidated and That it is normal to be or
feel different from others. Nobody is perfect. They will learn how to cope with themselves and understand
themselves better. For instance, Specific phobias for anxiety, social anxiety and many more. All of these have
different symptoms and different ways of coping. Thus, My youth program will also seek aid and help from
professionals through talks and also activities that help them express themselves or know themselves in a way
that they would know what to do if ever they are in a panic attack or someone they love is also going through
with it. This is in order to prevent cases of severe depression and mental health issues. We first start with the
trigger and at the beginning in identifying such symptoms or negativity. Prevention is always better than the
cure.
