TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY
A. Reviewing previous
lesson/presenting the new lesson

 Preparatory activities
Good morning class
Prayer
Everybody let us all stand and feel the
presence of our Lord. Student lead the prayer

But before we start can you pick up those

pieces of trash under chairs then arrange
your chairs and sit properly.

Alright.

Checking of attendance
Is everybody present today? Yes Ma’am
Wow very good.

Did I give you an assignment yesterday? Yes Ma’am

Okay let us check you assignment first.

Pass your paper.

Wow very impressive scores.

B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson

Now this morning class, we will have
another lesson but before that let us have
a recap of our lesson yesterday.
Ma’am we discussed about the elements
of communications.
Precisely yesterday we talked about
Elements of Communication, and what
are those elements?
The student answers the question

Precisely.

C. Presenting examples and instances

Welcome to our new lesson in English 11.

To start with, I have here class pictures;

I want you to differentiate
Picture A and Picture B.

Picture A is communicating non verbally.

Picture B is communicating using words

Alright.

Now what do you think our lesson for

today based on these pictures? Ma’am it is all about Verbal and Non
Verbal Communication

Yes precisely, our lesson for this morning is

all about Verbal and Non Verbal
Communication.

But, before we precede to our lesson

proper let me first present to you the
objectives of today’s lesson so that we will
be guided as we go along with our
discussion.

Everybody please read.

Alright thank you.

D. Discussing new concepts and

practicing new skills #1

For our first activity class, I want you to

choose a partner and talk about each
other’s dreams in the future. Additional
instruction, do observe your partner’s
behavior while doing the conversation,
and I’ll giving 10 minutes to do that.

Time’s up!

Alright who would like to share your

observation first?
My partner is talking fast.

My partner is exhibiting different facial

expression.

Is it necessary to use different facial

expression when communicating?
Or isn’t it that communication is just about
spoken words?

Basically class, many think that

communication is just about spoken
words.

When in fact verbal communication is not

the only form of communication.

Do you happen to know this person here?

He is Mr. Bean right? Mr. Bean

Mr. Bean is a perfect example of a person

who utilizes nonverbal communication.

How would we know if he is happy or sad?

That is through his facial expressions.

Therefore, facial expressions are necessary

in communicating.

E. Developing mastery (leads to

formative assessment)

Now to illustrate further, let us differentiate

Verbal and Nonverbal communication
using these four variables.

Medium
Channels
Examples
Decoding
Now what do you think is the medium of
verbal communication? Words, language, sentences, voice

What about in nonverbal communication? Our body language, facial expression, the
tone of our voice with the pauses in
speech, and gestures

Let us proceed to the second variable.

How many channels do we have in verbal

communication?
We are only using one channel and that is
our human voice.

How about in the nonverbal

communication? We are using multiple channels and those
are our body language, facial expression,
the tone of our voice with the pauses in
speech, and gestures.

Let’s proceed to the third variable which is

the examples?

Verbal Communication Telephone conversation, face to face

interaction

Nonverbal Communication It can only occur when all the parties in

the conversation can see each other.

Yes it can only occur when all the parties

in the conversation can see each other.
This helps them properly understand what
they are communicating nonverbally.
That is why they need to see each other.

Now to the fourth variable which is

decoding.

Now let me ask you the question, what is

easy to decode verbal or nonverbal
communication?
Verbal communication
It is because in verbal we are only using
single channel or one channel which is our
human voice.

While in nonverbal communication, we

are considering the multiple channels like
for example our body language, facial
expression, the tone of our voice with the
pauses in speech, and gestures.

Do you have any questions? None so far.

Are we good? Are we clear?

Yes Ma’am.

Very good.

F. Finding practical application of

concepts and skills in real life

Alright since you don’t have any question

lets precede to our second activity.

This time, you will be exhibiting the use of

verbal and nonverbal communication
through a short role play.

Activity 2
Instruction; You pretend to be a new
student in school using the following
personalities:

Group 1: The shy nervous students

Group 2: The happy confident new
student
Group 3: The new student with an attitude

I’ll give you 20 minutes to do that.

Time’s up!

Group 1 proceed in front, group 2 and 3.

Wow very commendable performance.

G. Making generalizations and

abstractions about the lesson

You know class there are actually many

ways to facilitate effective
communication. How you use your words,
your body language, tone of voice and
the visual miscues determine how you are
understood.

Above all class, verbal and nonverbal

communication must work together;
They must work in tandem in order to
deliver an understandable and effective
message.

Are we good?
Alright.
You have done a great job this morning
class.
But before we proceed to our final
activity. Let us go back first to our
objectives and checked what we have
attained so far.

Let us give a round of applause to

everyone. This time I’ll be assessing how
much you understood our lesson this
morning.

H. Evaluating learning
I want you to get bond paper and answer
this activity.

Differentiate verbal and nonverbal

communication using a graphic organizer.
Take note: a creative graphic organizer.

I’ll be giving you 20 minutes.

Time’s up.

Alright please pass your outputs.

Wow very nice graphic organizer.

I. Assignment

And for your assignment class.

Research and study in advance the 7

communication barriers. Select at least
two barriers which you have experienced
and provide preventive measures to avoid
or minimize it.

Any questions? No Ma’am.

Since no more question. That would the

end of our discussion for today.

Thank you for your participation and good

bye class. See you tomorrow.
