CHAPTER II
RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES
This chapter consists of the Review of Literature and Studies both foreign
and local and the similarities and differences of those researchers were
established in relation of the present study. Theoretical Framework and
Paradigm were also divided.
RELATED LITERATURE
According to Ojalvo (2011) states that the social media scholar Reynol
Junco answers questions about his recent findings — some of which may
surprise you about the kinds of behaviors correlated with certain ways college
students use Facebook.
9
The magazine paper is are similar to the study " effect of social media in
academic performance in grade 12 humanities and social science "because most
of students are using Facebook in this generation mostly 70% of people are
using Facebook app so the negative effect of social to the students , they give
more time to Facebook instead of school work.
10
According to Wade (2021) claims that there’s no denying that, ever since
social networks and social media made way into our lives, everything is different.
Beginning with the way we socialize, interact, plan for parties or even how often
we go out. We won’t go into a debate regarding the ethical aspects of the way
Social Media is influencing our lives.

social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat and
YouTube.
This newspaper's study and the researchers study are comparable in that
both demonstrate how social media negatively affects students' mental health. As
a result, researchers were able to identify one of these effects of social media on
students. This publication focuses on halting the further growth of social media,
especially given how it impacts students and their schoolwork, which makes it
different from the researchers study.
12
According to a recent study, more and more teachers around the world
are incorporating social media into their classrooms to engage students both
online and in person. In short, we can say social media is shaping and
influencing how students learn and interact today.
According to Charles Ogwo (2022) states that labake was just one of the
millions of students all over Nigeria that are constantly distracted from their
learning by the social media bug. Social media refers to a group of Internet-
based applications that is based on the ideological and technological foundations
of Web 2.0 that allows the design and exchange of ‘user-generated
content’.These social media sites vary from application to usage and content.
The most popular of these are Facebook, Skype, Instagram, WhatsApp and
Twitter.

children a hot topic now driving major lawsuits against tech giants. Why it
matters: Seattle Public Schools' recently filed lawsuit against TikTok, Meta, Snap
and others which accuses the social media giants of contributing to a youth
mental health crisis is one of hundreds of similar cases.
This newspaper and researchers study both deal with social media and
its impact on students, and their coverage demonstrates how excessive usage of
social media negatively affects students' mental health. The difference between
this newspaper and the researchers study is mental health and social media. The
goal of this news is to convey to the reader that social media has a significant
impact on the mental health of students, and they also want a lawsuit against
large social media companies. media company, but they failed, and this is the
difference between researchers study in this newspaper.
According to Ankita Pathak (2022) state that research has shown that
over 95% of students have access to some sort of mobile device that connects to
the internet, meaning that using mobile technology for educational purposes will
possibly exclude less than 5% of students. With the digital age, social media has
become an important tool not only for communication and marketing but also in
the field of education. The lockdown phase during COVID-19 has witnessed the
closure of various educational institutes, leaving social media the only place for
students to interact.
14
According to Miao Chen (2022) claim that the use of social media is
incomparably on the rise among students, influenced by the globalized forms of
communication and the post-pandemic rush to use multiple social media
platforms for education in different fields of study. Though social media has
created tremendous chances for sharing ideas and emotions, the kind of social
support it provides might fail to meet students’ emotional needs, or the alleged
positive effects might be short-lasting.
15
to encourage the use of social media, particularly among students this news says
one of the effect of social media in students also it affects to their academic
performance. The difference between this newspaper and researchers study is
that they are looking for an answer as to why so many people are addicted to
social media, so they spend more time on it.
This news story is similar to this study on how they use social media at
work. The distinction between this and research is that there is no student
involvement and no academic performance is developed.
The news report is similar to this study on how social media have a many
use a way of learning and how to guide student using social media in their
academic performance. The difference between the study and the news is that
there is no academic performances that involve.
The use of social media within the school is one of the similarities
between this report and research. The distinction is that it focuses on teachers in
the Department of Education.
16
According to INQUIRER special report oh Joey Gabieta (2022) claims
that Department of Education says teachers are not prohibited from using social
media.
The similarities between this new report and the study are that social
media was used within the premises, but the difference is that no students were
involved in the issue.
This news report is similar to this study in using social media but the
difference is its focusing on the promoting advocacy and there is no student and

17
According to Manila Bulletin special report of Seth Cabanban (2022)
states that Hataman ask “should we let social media mold our value as Filipino?”
The similarities of the news and this study is how social media being us.
The difference is the news report is focusing how social media influences the

social media should be monitored and controlled by teachers and parents to
curtail the negative influence .There is need to design appropriate behavioural
change communication materials that will educate adolescents and parents
about the potential benefits and draw backs of using social media.. Also, the
government should ensure strict compliance to age restrictions in social
networking thereby preventing the under aged from undue exposure to
information that may be damaging to both his personality and educational
pursuits.
This abstract and the researchers study are similar in that they both
discuss the detrimental effects of social media use on young people. This
abstract and our study differ from one other in that they discuss the various
reasons why social media negatively impacts students' academic performance.
21
Their study and academic performance and ultimately their result
become effective. Some of the students cannot remain away from using social
media and it affects their academic performance badly. This abstract and the
researchers study are comparable in that they both examine the positive and
negative effects that social media might have on students' academic
performance. Their study is different from researchers study in that it is
concentrated on the potential benefits and drawbacks of social media as it
relates to each student's academic performance.
This abstract and the researchers study are similar in that they both
discuss potential effects of social media on students' academic performance as
well as the detrimental effects it has on young people who are becoming almost
completely reliant on social media. The difference is this abstract focus on the
potential effects of social media on academic success and how social media use
relates to overall academic performance, which makes them different from one
another.
22
these studies either focus on smartphones and social media addictedness or rely
on surveys, which only provide approximate estimates Given how devoted the
students are to social media and how little they are aware of its detrimental
effects on their academic performance, there is a similarity between this abstract
and the researchers study. As a result, it is important to explain why it is not
advisable for students to spend too much time on social media because it will
also have an impact on their academic performance.
This abstract and researchers study is different in that their study does
not only focus on how social media affects students' academic achievement but
also on the detrimental impacts it has on students' conduct.
This abstract and researchers’ study is similar in that they both examine
how social media affects students, particularly in terms of academic
achievement. It is comparable to our study because we similarly want to
understand how social media affects students' academic performance. This
abstract differs from researchers’ study in that they are aware of the popular
applications that students use, which is why it has a negative impact on students'
academic performance. When they use several amusing apps, they have more
fun. instead of utilizing it to improve their academic achievement.
This abstract and researchers’ study are similar in that they are aware of
the consequences social media may have on academic performance due to the
rise in social media users, and we are also aware of the potential effects social
media may have on students' academic performance. This abstract differs from
researchers’ study in that they have data on how many people think social media
has a negative impact on their academic performance and how many say it has a
positive one. They also include teachers who utilize social media to engage with
students.
24
The resemblance of this abstract to researchers study also demonstrates
in their study the effect of social media on the academic performance of students
at the same time as the spread of social media around the world. They know how
students' academic achievement affects measures of education, which makes
their research different from ours from this abstract.assessing their level of
satisfaction with its use and sustainability.
The similarities between this abstract and researchers’ study is that both
of us are aware of how social media affects students' academic performance,
and because social media has become so widespread, we are also aware of
both its positive and negative effects on students' academic performance. This
abstract differs from researchers’ study in that their study sought to determine
how students' use of social media affected their academic achievement. The
study showed that the majority of pupils had smartphones with internet access
and were familiar with the Social media's existence.
This abstract and the researchers’ study are similar in that both of them
examine how social media use affects academic achievement and how it
damages students. Compared to researchers’ study, this abstract is different.

media-related Specifically, information overload in the context of education
Overload in terms of social, communication, and information.
The facts that social media has such a strong impact on students and
that we are aware of how it affects students' academic performance is the reason
why this abstract and researchers’ study are similar. This abstract and
researchers’ study are different in that they both put more of an emphasis on
looking at the effects of different amounts of time spent on social media during
several pertinent instances, such the times that kids are holidays from school.
26
According to Raza, ET AL (2020) states that students are regularly
engaged in several things at the same tie during class and school time. They are
using smartphones, tablets, laptops, and using social media on these devices
while learning and attending class. This abstract and researchers’ study are
comparable in that we both understand how social media affects students'
academic performance and what kinds of bad experiences students have on
social media.
27
According to Abrenica, ET AL (2021)states that this study is entitled,
“Effects of Social Media on Academic Performance of Don Ramon E. Costales
Memorial National High School Students.” The study was conducted at Don
Ramon E. Costales Memorial National High School in Villasis, Pangasinan. The
Philippines This study aimed to determine the extent of students’ utilization of
social networking sites, their reasons for using social media, and their social
media preference. It also tried to explore how the different variables such as sex,
age, religion, grade level, type of social networking sites, and the number of
hours spent in studying affect the extent of their social media usage.
This abstract and researchers study is both concerned with how social
media affects students' academic performance, which is where the similarities
end. And what benefits can social media have for students' academic
achievement. This abstract and researchers study differ in that their research
sheds light on how social media usage affects students' reading attitudes,
whereas researchers study only provides a summary of the topic and influencing
how adept they are at reading.
These abstract and researchers studies are similar in that both aim to
determine how social media affects students' academic performance and how
much it aids their studies. The difference between the abstract and researchers
study is that they seek to understand the substantial role that social media plays
in students' academic success since, according to their poll, many people believe
that social media has a negative impact on students' academic performance.
29
The study of social media's effects on academic performance and what
students' experiences have been with utilizing social media are comparable to
researchers study in this abstract. The results of their study show that social
media has a negative impact on health, which makes this abstract different from
researchers study. If used properly, networking could significantly improve pupils'
academic performance. responsibly.
According to Tus, Et Al (2021) claims that social media use has become
prevalent and nearly inevitable, changing the way studentsInteract, connect, and
socialize; it has become an integral part of their social and cultural Fabric. As a
result, students spend a significant amount of time on social media. Thus, This
study investigates the impact of social media usage on students’ academic
Performance amidst the new normal of education, specifically during the COVID-
19 Pandemic.
30
The abstract and researchers study are comparable in that they both
discuss how social media might impact academic achievement, particularly in the
present day and its educational system. These abstract and researchers studies
differ in that they cover the advantages and disadvantages of social media as a
learning tool during the Covid 19 era.
This abstract and researchers study is similar in that they both examine
how social media has both positive and negative effects on students' academic
achievement. They also both examine how social media has made learning
easier. This abstract differs from researchers study in that they also examined
the important findings that exposure to the use of technology and students' study
habits are closely related.
This abstract and researchers study is similar in that both focus on how
social media affects students' academic performance and in particular the
benefits it provides to each student's academic performance.
This abstract and researchers study differs from one another in that they
place more emphasis on the advantages of social media for students.
31
According to Chua, ET AL (2019)The advancement of Science and
Technology Can mirror the progress of human civilization. The Advancement in
this field includes rapid development of Cuttingedge technologies that range from
hardware Devices, software, and various applications ultimately; the goal of all of
these is to provide a good life to its Users; getting things done the fastest, most
accurate and efficient way possible.
This abstract and researchers study is similar in that they both discuss
how technology affects students and whether social media has an impact on their
academic performance. The difference between this abstract and researchers
study is that they concentrated on how Advancement in this discipline entails
quick development of Cutting-edge technologies that include hardware devices,
software, and different applications are, in the end, getting things done quickly
and accurately is the aim of all of them in order to give its users a nice life,
quickest and most effective manner.
32
According to Tucay, Et Al (2016) states that the new millennium has
brought new trends and movements that have profoundly touch the lives of
people throughout the world. These changes make the world a global village, and
people live in a world of globalization. These speeded interactions among people
in the various parts of the globe precipitated the need for a lot of information. It is
said that inventions change the way we live. Technology and the strong presence
of mass media is a classic example of this and it has indeed changed our way of
living. The parallels between mass media and the education system are striking.
This abstract and researchers study is similar in that they both discuss
how social media has altered how people teach and learn. and what impact does
this have on the students' academic achievement. This abstract and researchers
study is different in that their descriptive study was completed in order to gauge
the impact. of mass media to the political science students at Kalinga State
University's level of understanding.
This abstract and researchers study is similar in that both focus on the
effects of social media on student academic performance. Additionally, how
social media aids pupils in online learning This abstract and researchers study
differ in that their research focused on how social media impacted students'
academic achievement during COVID-19.
33
According to Bautista, E. B. (2020) claims that this study determined the
mediating effect of students’ perception towards social media on the relationship
between vocabulary learning Attitude and language skills development. The
quantitative approach Using the correlational technique and mediation analysis
were utilized in this study with a sample of 350 students coming from the senior
high School department of the University of Mindanao main campus.
The similarity between this abstract and the researcher’s study is how
social media influences how students study. This abstract differs from the
researcher’s study in that it focuses on the significant partial mediation of the
students' perceptions of the influence of social media on the relationship between
Vocabulary Learning Attitude and Language Skill Development The study
demonstrated this.
