She’s truly an Angel sent from above. Others call her “real-life Darna”, as she portrayed the fictional
character on screen having superhuman strength, stamina, speed, agility and endurance. This time, a true hero who
exhibits valor supporting the fight against Covid-19 pandemic.
The bravery and honor that Angel Locsin has showed during health crisis is undeniable. Internationally
recognized for her philanthropic work, Angel continues to extend assistance for others’ relief and rehabilitation.
During Sagip Kapamilya Online Auction, she put her dream car, the 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle, to raise a certain
amount for her project. She also built the fundraiser “United We Stand PH” which has raised 11.35 million for
246 tents. These tents include 225 isolation and 21 sanitation tents with misting machine and UV light, which
benefitted the 135 hospitals in and out Metro Manila.
Locsin, in her Instagram post, said that her only dream was to provide tents to hospitals for patients and for
frontliners to address the challenge of overcrowding and to help lessen the increase of spreading the virus in
hospitals. She was also thankful that there are other generous people who donated food, aircons and Personal
Protective Equipment (PPE). In 2017, she was also at the ground zero in Marawi City to distribute food packs and
school supplies to the residents who were devastated due to a war flared between the government troops and
terrorists. Angel even supports and care people especially affected by various typhoons and volcanic eruptions.
Indeed, she was named one of Forbes Asia’s “Heroes of Philanthropy” in 2019.

Avella Lipata used to make the rounds of Makati hotels and offices in her truck to collect waste materials.
Back at the warehouse of her company, she and ten other workers carefully sorted items that would not be sent to
dumpsites instead sold at competitive prices.
When her story was featured as an exceptional solid waste management initiative, it caught the attention of
the Solid Waste Management Program. Any much association might have much to gain from implementing a solid
waste management program. For a busy commercial district, setting up an organized waste collection and disposal
system was not only cost -efficient, but also helped maintain the malls’ standards as premier lifestyle centers. It was
an association that initiated the waste collection and recycling program in 1996.
By the time the group contacted Avella’s company 10 years later, it had reduced the amount of garbage
hauled from the malls from 20 trucks to seven trucks every day. Through further segregation, two truckloads of
collected materials can still be recovered and sold.
