LP Grade-8 Ratio and Proportion
I. Objectives
At the end of the discussion, students should be able to:
a. Identify ratio and proportion;
b. Solve problem related to ratio and proportion; and
c. State the importance of ratio and proportion in real life situation.

B. Motivation
Now take a look at this picture, what can you see? Apples and mangoes ma’am.
Now, who can explain what a ratio is? A ratio is a way of comparing two or more quantities. In
this case, it's the comparison of apples to mangoes.
Very good! Using a cross multiplication. If we multiply
6x6, we will have the answer of ? 36 ma’am.
C. Presentation
Based on our small activity, what do you think will be our It is all about ratio and proportion ma’am.
lesson this morning?
Very good! Our lesson for today is all about ratio and
proportion. And at the lesson you should be able to;
D. Lesson Proper
Based on our small activity who can define what is ratio? Ratio is the comparison of two quantities or numbers
ma’am.
Yes! Ratio is a way of comparing two or more quantities
or numbers.
.
I have here an example. Company A will receive 3
discount coupons for every 5 guaranteed rooms.
Yes! Therefore, if they will get 6 discount coupons for 10 6:10 ma’am.
rooms reserve with guarantee, the ratio is what?
How did we compare the two ratios using what? By using a colon, ma’am.
Next. What do you mean by proportion? Proportion is an equation that defines that the two given
ratios are equivalent to each other.
Very good! If two ratios being compared are equal, the
statement is known as proportion.
In order for us to check whether is two ratios are in Through cross multiplication ma’am.
proportion or not, you may get the product of the two
different groups through cross multiplication.
So, I will try to answer this first and later on I will call
someone to answer it in the board.
Question?
Questions? No ma’am.
E. Application
F. Generalization
Again, what is ratio Ratio is the comparison of two quantities or numbers
ma’am.
How about proportion? Proportion is an equation that defines that the two given
ratios are equivalent to each other.
What do we use in order to check if the two ratios are Cross multiplication, ma’am.
proportion or not?
Very good!
Ratios help compare quantities or values, like the ratio of
What do you think is the importance of ratio? boys to girls in a class.
Very good! How about proportion? Proportions help adjust amounts. For example, in a
recipe, if you want to make more or less, you use
proportions.
Exactly!
IV. Evaluation
Direction: In a 1/2 sheet of paper, answer the following; Look for the ratio and identify if the given rtio is proportional
or not.
1. The manager observes that, on average, it takes 3 staff members to check in 60 guests during peak hours. However,
during off-peak hours, the manager wants to reduce the number of staff members to maintain cost-effectiveness and
put 1.5 staff member.
2. A hotel is planning to redecorate its rooms to create a more modern and stylish atmosphere. The interior designer
suggests using a certain ratio of colors to achieve the desired look. The recommended ratio is 2 parts of a neutral color
to 5 parts of a vibrant color. If the hotel wants to paint a total of 420 square feet of wall space, how much of each color
should they use?
3. If company A reserved 4 rooms for 16 employees because the room can only accommodate four person per room. and
Company Y has twice number of employees than company X. How many rooms did Company Y, reserve for his
employee?
V. Assignment
Direction: In a 1/2 sheet of paper, answer the following; Look for the ratio and identify if the given ratio is
proportional or not.
Problem: Company X reserved 6 rooms for 12 employees. Company Y has twice the number of employees compared
to Company X. Each room can accommodate a maximum of 4 employees. If both companies want to ensure that all
employees have a room, how many rooms does Company Y need to reserve?
2. If the same ratio of employees to rooms is maintained for Company Y, how many rooms should Company Y
reserve for its 24 employees?
Answer:
3. If Company X decides to reserve an additional 2 rooms for future expansion while maintaining the same ratio,
how many rooms will they have in total?
Answer:
4. If Company Y decides to reserve only half as many rooms as required by the ratio, how many employees will
have to share a room?
