1. Introduction

1.1 general over view of the internship

The main aim of this internship was for me to know how the things I have in class are applied in
work environment of the real world. And also to see the work environment ethics and discipline
and gain knowledge and experience from experienced workers of the company.

1.2 Scope of work

The scope of work I was engaged in was involved with studio, transmitter and receiver, and
remote broadcasting. It all comes down from designing and installing computer systems,
transmitters, and microwave systems to maintaining all electrical equipment associated with
broadcasting.
At first my supervisor showed me the equipment used in the broadcasting station. They are all
set up, programmed and configured by the communication engineer before being send out for
use. And my supervisor gave me an assignment of browsing all the equipment and servers, and
read about their use so that I become familiar with them. Then he guided me on to how to
configure the devices to our desired output. I tried to monitor and configure all devices for
supporting TV playout for the channel.

1.3 Expected outputs

3. Over all internship experience

3.1. how I got to the company

I personally went to fana broadcasting station and apply for internship. At first it was
difficult because they kept saying its full and that they are not accepting more interns due
to covid-19 protocol. After so many negotiations and pleadings, they accepted me. I was
given the priviledge on choosing the department I want to work with and I chose the
broadcasting egnineers department(communication engineering).

3.2. how did you become oriented with the responsibilities you were assigned

I was given an orientation about the center and disciplines I should follow through out the
internship period. I then met the head of the broadcasting engineers department Mr
eskatnaf and he introduced me to my supervisor Mr. addis. My supervisor filled me in how I
am going to be working with them, what is expected form me, the do’s and donts I should
be aware of. He showed me the whole building, the floor which I will be working at and the
floors I am forvidden to go to. My schedule was only twice a week, which was unfortunate
considering the internship being only for a month. But due to the stuff members being on
continuous field works, I failed in persuading them to give me more days in the weeks. So
the total days I went to FbC was only 8 days.

I was given only a day to read about the devices and the systems I should be familiar
with.other than my superviser the stuff memebers form the communication department as
well as the IT support team , I was given a module, pdfs and other materials to learn about
computer maintenance, about LAN networking, and so on. I was given a schedule and
course outline. And for each titiles I was given a module and websites. While I was
performing when I faced challenges, the supervisor as well as all the stuff members were
there to help me.
3.3. challenges I have faced while performing my task

 Since I was new to all electrical devices It was difficult to differentiate one from
another.
 Since the internship is only for a month, my supervisor and the stuff members were
confused on what kind of task they could give me with out teaching me properly.
 Even for the one month internship, the company could not give me more than 2
days a week because they were busy with work.
 Since I am the only intern from communicaton engineering department in this
company, there was not another student who could team up with me and work.
 From this internship, I was only allowed to observe others working and I was only
given an explanation on how the systems work but I was never given the priviledge
to work with them.
 I was only givin general knowledge, I couldn’t get deep in to the broadcasting
engineering working system. Therefore I did not fully understand the concept.

3.4. measures I have taken to overcome these challenges

 I tried to discuss all of my problems with my supervisor, and he tried his best to meet my
demands but unfortunately it was impossible. But while they were in field and busy with
work, I stayed with the IT support team and the software development team. And I was
able to obtain other general knowledges which are somehow connected to my field of
study.

I was able to learn about:-

 Computer maintainance
 LAN, VLAN
 Cable crimping
 Printer and file sharing
 Wifi system
 About switches and routers
 Domain system
 Formatting windows
 I get to see the softwares fana use that are developed by the software developmet team
 I toured studios and get to see how the employers work with the devices and so on.
