Global Accreditation Body for Scrum

and Agile Certifications

Scrum is an iterative and incremental Agile framework for
delivering projects successfully.

Teach high-quality Scrum and Agile classes in three simple steps:

Step 1 – Become a VMEdu Authorized Training Partner (V.A.T.P.).

Step 2 – Get access to comprehensive trainer resources, and certify your trainers to teach SCRUMstudy™
accredited Scrum and Agile certification courses such as Scrum Developer Certified (SDC®),
Scrum Master Certified (SMC®), Scrum Product Owner Certified (SPOC®), and SCRUMstudy
Agile Master Certified (SAMC™).
Step 3 – Increase your revenues substantially. Get up to 75% discount off certification exam prices.
Overview of Scrum
Scrum is the most popular Agile framework for delivering projects. It is an adaptive,
iterative, fast, flexible, and effective framework designed to deliver significant
value quickly and throughout a project.

Scrum ensures transparency in communication, and creates an environment of collective accountability and
continuous progress. The Scrum framework, as defined in the SBOK® Guide, is structured in such a way that it
supports product and service development in all types of industries and in any type of project, irrespective of its
complexity.

A Scrum project involves a collaborative effort to create a new product, service, or other result as defined in the
Project Vision Statement. Projects are impacted by constraints of time, cost, scope, quality, resources,
organizational capabilities, and other limitations that make projects difficult to plan, execute, manage, and
ultimately succeed. However, successful implementation of the results of a completed project provides significant
business benefits to an organization. It is therefore important for organizations to select and practice an
appropriate project delivery approach.

A key strength of Scrum lies in its use of cross-functional, self-organized, and empowered teams, who divide and
execute their work in short, concentrated work cycles called Sprints. The focus of Scrum on value-driven delivery
helps Scrum Teams deliver results as early in the project as possible.

A Guide to the Scrum Body of Knowledge
(SBOK® Guide)
A comprehensive guide to deliver projects using Scrum.

A Guide to the Scrum Body of Knowledge (SBOK® Guide)

provides guidelines for the successful implementation of
Scrum—the most popular Agile product development and
project delivery framework. Scrum, as defined in the SBOK®
Guide, is applicable to:
• Portfolios, programs, and/or projects in any industry
• Products, services, or any other results to be delivered
to stakeholders
• Projects of any size or complexity

The SBOK® Guide can be used as a reference and knowledge

guide by both experienced Scrum and other product and
service development practitioners, as well as by individuals with no prior experience or knowledge of Scrum or
other project delivery frameworks. Eighteen subject matter experts and twenty-eight reviewers contributed to the
creation of the SBOK® Guide.

The first chapter describes the purpose and framework of the SBOK® Guide, and provides an introduction to the
important concepts of Scrum. It contains a summary of Scrum principles, Scrum aspects and Scrum processes.
Chapter 2 expands on the six Scrum principles which are the foundation on which the Scrum framework is based:
Empirical Process Control, Self-organization, Collaboration, Value-based Prioritization, Time-boxing, and Iterative
Development. Chapters 3 through 7 elaborate on the five Scrum aspects that must be addressed throughout any
project: Organization, Business Justification, Quality, Change, and Risk. Chapters 8 through 12 cover the 19
Scrum processes involved in carrying out a Scrum project. These processes are part of the five Scrum phases:
Initiate; Plan and Estimate; Implement; Review and Retrospect; and Release. These phases describe in detail the
associated inputs, tools, and outputs of each process.

The third edition of the SBOK® Guide adds to the collective knowledge of the Scrum framework with content
related to Scaling Scrum for Large Projects, and Scaling Scrum for the Enterprise, covered in Chapters 13 and 14
respectively.

Chapters in the third edition of the SBOK® Guide:

1. Introduction 8. Initiate
2. Principles 9. Plan and Estimate
3. Organization 10. Implement
4. Business Justification 11. Review and Retrospect
5. Quality 12. Release
6. Change 13. Scaling Scrum for Large Projects
7. Risk 14. Scaling Scrum for the Enterprise

Scaling Scrum for Large Projects and the Enterprise
When working on large projects, programs, and/or portfolios, some additional
processes. are required to address the additional coordination and
synchronization efforts.

To be effective, Scrum Teams should ideally have six to ten members. This practice may be the reason for the
misconception that the Scrum framework can be used only for small projects. However, Scrum can easily be
scaled for effective use in large projects, programs, or portfolios. In situations where the Scrum Team size exceeds
ten members, multiple Scrum Teams can be formed to work on the initiative.

Large or complex projects are often implemented as part of a program or portfolio. The Scrum framework can also
be applied to manage programs and portfolios. The logical approach of the guidelines and principles in this
framework can be used to manage projects of any size, spanning geographies, and organizations. Large projects
may have multiple Scrum Teams working in parallel, making it necessary to synchronize and facilitate the flow of
information, and enhance communication. Scaling Scrum for Large Projects facilitates coordination among the
Scrum Teams, enabling effective implementation in larger projects. Scaling Scrum for the Enterprise facilitates
coordination among various Scrum Teams within a program or portfolio.
