ny when carrying out perforating activities. Probe offers a broad range of sizes of gamma guns,
Shooting CCL as well as industry standard firing panels and associated electrical equipment for
you to carry out safe and efficient perforating activities.
Probe into the possibilities of our qualified
perforating tools
Probe designs, manufactures & supplies a broad range of perforating systems for use in electric-line, slick-line,
coil tubing applications and TCP/DST operations. All industry standard pyrotechnics & perforating operations
are covered by Probe designed tools, which can be surface read-out or memory based systems. Our systems
have been independently qualified, where necessary, meet the recommendations of API RP67 and are CE
Mark compliant*.
Probe offers a unique ability to supply complete coverage for their clients perforating equipment requirements, by
offering a wide range of tool sizes, applications and advanced designs.
Our well proven electric-line panels & downhole tools for use in all oil & gas environments, are now complemented
by our IntelleX™ memory-based trigger system. Many thru-tubing interventions can now be performed without
the need for a full electric-line unit to be present at the well site. This can be particularly useful, for example, on
small offshore installations where space is at a premium.
Electric-Line Application
Stand-alone or combinable Shooting CCL and Gamma Gun — offers maximum flexibility over a wide range of tubing and casing sizes
and the ability to corss over to any industry standard perforating system and controlled by our CE approved Shooting Panels.
Memory-based, programmable IntelleX™ tools offer much greater control of the perforating event when compared to the less
technical, pressure activated firing heads on the market. Time, pressure, temperature and movement can all be employed as
trigger mechanisms.
Surface Equipment
Probe shooting panels and auxiliary surface equipment are designed with safety and reliability in mind. The Shooting Panel is combin-
able with the rest of Probe’s surface panels including the Drum Selector, Patch Panel and Potential Monitor Panel. There are numerous
options available for the Shooting Panel including USB interface, High Voltage configuration and Filter Board assembly.

Surface Panels
Safe...Reliable...Efficient
Probe designs, manufactures and supplies wireline shooting panels and accessories which can be utilized for all
industry standard perforating / pyrotechnic operations. The Probe Shooting Panel is available in both cased hole
(mono-conductor) and open hole (7 conductor) configurations and are manufactured in a standard 17 inch rack
mount size. A range of options is available for these shooting panels, which allows the panel to be used with
Downhole Tractors, with longer logging lines and have the ability to supply filtered DC voltage, which is required
for certain types of detonator.
The panel requires two separate power supplies – a 12VDC truck supply for safety circuits, and a 110VAC supply
for firing circuits. Both the Cased Hole & Open Hole panels meet the requirements of API RP67 recommended
practice, but additionally the Cased Hole panel is CE Approved per the European Declaration of Conformity (EMI /
RFI noise test).
Probe also manufactures auxiliary panels for use with the shooting panels. For use with the Cased Hole Shooting
Pane, a Dual-drum Selector Panel is availabl, which permits the operator to select the line in use, but also places a
5kΩ safety load across the line that is not in use.
The Open Hole Shooting Panel can be matched to an Open Hole Patch Panel which provides easy access, either
to select lines 1 thru’ 7 or as a convenient means to check any of the lines.

Real-Time Surface Perforating Systems
Safe...Reliable...Efficient
Probe designs & manufactures a broad range of Shooting CCL’s and Gamma Gun tools which can be utilized by most
cased-hole operating systems. Options are available for Geiger or Scintillation detectors in the Gamma Gun tools and
CCL’s are available with up to six magnet assemblies for increased responsiveness in larger diameter pipe.
Probe correlation tools are available in 1-11/16, 2-3/4 and 3-1/8 inch diameters and can be run in combination or
as stand-alone tools. Their well proven design ensures accurate tool responses and long term reliability in the harsh-
est of environments.
Options for Single Fire and Dual Fire Gamma Gun configurations are available.
Probe can offer a true Real-Time Perforating System when these tools are combined with our Surface Control
Panels and Auxiliary Safety Products.

Memory-Based Perforating Systems
Safe...Reliable...Efficient
Importantly, it is independently verified as safe for use in offshore environments and meets all the recommendations
of API RP67. This verification confirmed the system as immune from Rf, stray voltage and lightning strikes as possible
sources of inadvertent firing.
The internal unit is field replaceable, meaning that multiple back-up tools can be made available at a fraction of the
cost of a complete tool. Additionally, an optional (passive) CCL can be run with the firing head which eliminates the
need for a separate correlation toolstring. The tool memory records a full set of downhole data consisting of time,
status, pressure, temperature, axial & radial acceleration (tilt & shock) and output voltage.
The unit is activated / de-activated via a pre-programmed sequence of time, pressure/temperature safe thresholds
with optional pressure pulse and/or acceleration parameters. A compact sub with selectable pressure & temperature
barriers is normally deployed as part of the IntelleX™ system. This places two additional, physical barriers in the
system to prevent inadvertent firing.
It can monitor extremely fast pressure transients involved in downhole explosive environments and can be ‘triggered’
into fast mode by pressure (absolute or delta) or via acceleration events. The gauge will move from standard recording
rate to fast recording rate within 100µs and any number of fast datasets can be triggered, limited only by available tool
memory (up to 8 Mb).

Real Results Powered by Ingenuity
Wireless Shot Detection System sucessfully tested for plug-setting sensor capability.
Probe’s Wireless Shot Detection System was requested to test on a Plug-Perforating pump down job for Wildcat
Wireline in Conway, Arkansas. Our client was interested in exploring the capability of the system to sense the
plug-setting event.
WSDS Technology
The Wireless Shot Detection System (WSDS) enables the user to
wirelessly monitor and record vibrations of the well induced by
explosive charges detonating in a downhole environment.
Test #1: The WSDS was placed on the well-head at ground elevation. This well was being completed as a single, no
Fracing on the adjacent well. The noise represented on the graph below [Figure 1] was the gun string being pumped
down at 14 barrels a minute. Once a depth of approximately 5,200 feet was reached, the pumps were shut down and
pulled into position to set the plug. The well-head pressure was approximately 900 pounds. Shown on Figure 1, the
Igniter and Power Charge initiate the actual plug setting. The client also tested the plug at 4000 pounds. Following the
plug tests, the engineer shoots the first & second gun. After the second gun, the engineer starts the rate at 2 barrels to
maintain a constant pressure of 900 pounds. The engineer then proceeds to shoot the gun 3 – 6. (Environment -
afternoon, 40° F temperature range)
Using this system during the perforating process will provide a safer work environment by
offering proven confirmation of detonation, while also recording the sequence of events
throughout the duration of the job for future reference.
Test #2: The WSDS was placed on the Crown Valve of the well about 5 feet above ground elevation after the Wireline
Engineer has reached depth and stopped the pumps. The well was still being completed as a single, no Fracing on
the adjacent well. The well-head pressure was again, approximately 900 pounds. Shown again on the second graph
[Figure 2], the igniter and power charge are discharged to set the plug. The client repeated testing of this plug to
4000 pounds well-head pressure. After the pressure test, the engineer fired the first, second, and third gun. The
pumps were started to achieve 2 barrels a minute to maintain the well-head pressure at 900 pounds. The engineer
proceeded to shoot guns 4 – 6. (Environment - morning, 20° F temperature range)
