Objective:

A. Colour

Procedure:
1. Ask learners to look at the picture given in the book and
name the people shown in it.
2. Ask them to name the people who live in their house.
3. Then ask them to colour the people who live in
their house.

Listening and learning


Objective:
• To listen and learn about the parts of a house
Time required: 10 minutes
Materials required: the book, Smart Board, speakers
and crayons

B1. Listen
Procedure:
1. Read out the task given in the book.
2. Ask learners to listen attentively to Mani telling about her
house, focusing on the parts of the house while listening.
3. Replay the audio.
4. Ask learners to colour the happy face if Mani’s house has
that place and colour the sad face if her house does not have
that place.
5. Discuss the answers in class.
Answer key:
Places to be coloured with a happy face: library, garden,
kitchen, bedroom, living room
Places to be coloured with a sad face: pond, tennis court, play
room

Extended activity: You can talk about different places in a


house and what we do there. You may include words like
balcony, porch, corridor, verandah and lobby.

Speaking and practicing


Objective:
• To talk about family members

members, glue

C1. Talk

Procedure:
1. Ask the learners to paste the pictures of their family members.
2. Then, divide the class into pairs.
3. Tell them to talk about their family members to each other.
4. Encourage them to talk about their family members using
the words in the Word Wizard box. Help them pronounce
the words correctly.
5. Play the video and ask them to watch it attentively.
Assessment parameters:
• Learners should be able to talk about their family members
confidently.
• Learners should be able to use the correct words.

Saying it right
Objective:
• To say words beginning with g, l, f, b sounds correctly
Time required: 10 minutes
Material required: the book and Smart Board

D1. Sing

Procedure:
1. Inform listeners that you are going to play the song.

2. Ask them to listen to the song and sing along.
3. Play the song.
4. Help learners to say the words in the song correctly.
Teaching tip: Replay the song. You may make learners act
out the actions described while singing.
Explain the meanings of these words:
fig: a fruit glee: happiness
bleat: a sound made by sheep

• Learners should be able to pronounce words with the f, l, g, b
sounds correctly.

D2. Repeat

Procedure:
1. Inform learners that you are going to play the audio with the
words.
2. Ask learners to listen attentively to the words and repeat
them, paying attention to the beginning sound of every
word.
3. Play the audio.
4. Help learners say the words correctly. Then, play the video
and ask learners to watch it attentively.

Extended activity: Make a word web in the classroom and


ask learners to add more words with the sounds f, l, g, b
to the web. This will help in enriching their vocabulary and
revising the concept taught.

Objective:
• To describe what different people are doing
Time required: 10 minutes

F. Ask and answer

Procedure:
1. Ask learners to look at the picture and observe what
different people are doing.
2. Tell them you are going to play an audio.
3. Ask them to listen to the questions in the audio and answer
them according to what they see in the picture.
4. Play the audio.
5. Instruct learners to use the words given under Grammar
Guide to answer the questions they hear.
6. Then ask learners to form pairs and encourage them to ask
questions about each other’s family and answer them.
Teaching tip: Tell learners that we use:
‘He is …’; ‘She is …’; ‘They are ...’ to describe what people
are doing.

Getting started

• To talk about people in one’s family

Procedure:
1. Ask learners to work in pairs and tell their partner one thing
about every member of their family.

Listening and learning


Objectives:
• To listen and learn to describe people
• To listen, comprehend and extract specific information
Time required: 15 minutes
Materials required: the book, Smart Board, speakers and
crayons

B2. Listen

Procedure:
1. Read out the task given in the book.
2. Ask learners to observe the picture of Deepak’s family.
3. Ask them to listen attentively to Deepak talk about his
family, focusing on the description of each person’s dress.
4. Play the audio and pause it after each person’s description.

5. Ask learners to colour the dress of each person as described
in the audio.

5. Pause after each word, giving them ample time to write.

Fun Activity
Materials required: the book, a pencil, an eraser and crayons or
colour pencils

Procedure:
1. Explain what a family tree is.
2. Ask the learners to draw their representations of their family
members.
3. Tell them that they should draw their grandparents in the
top two circles.
4. The learners should draw the pictures of their parents
in the two circles in the middle of the tree, and those of
their uncles or aunts in the two circles on the second row,
on the sides.
5. Instruct them to draw their picture in the big circle at
the bottom.

Take a break!
Objective:
• To help the learners to identify pictures and name them.

Time required: 30 minutes


Materials required: The book, Smart Board, a die

Procedure:
1. Instruct the learners to sit in a cirlce.
2. Ask them to look at the grid on page 31.
3. Then, ask each learner to toss the die.
4. The learner has to say the name of a picture in the same
column as the number shown on the die they have tossed.
5. After naming the object, ask the learner to identify the first
sound of the word they have said.
6. Then, ask the learner to say another word beginning with
the same sound.
Answer key:
1. fish, fan, man, mat
2. cat, can, lip, lock
3. dog, den, rat, rug
4. pin, pan, hat, hen
5. nib, net, girl, gift
6. tiger, tap, bag, bug
Any words that begin with the same sounds as the pictures can
be accepted.
