Objective:
• To initiate learners into the theme of family and home
Time required: 5 minutes
Material required: the book and crayons
A. Colour
Procedure:
1. Ask learners to look at the picture given in the book and
name the people shown in it.
2. Ask them to name the people who live in their house.
3. Then ask them to colour the people who live in
their house.
Assessment parameters:
• Learners should be able to comprehend the information
given in the audio.
C1. Talk
Procedure:
1. Ask the learners to paste the pictures of their family members.
2. Then, divide the class into pairs.
3. Tell them to talk about their family members to each other.
4. Encourage them to talk about their family members using
the words in the Word Wizard box. Help them pronounce
the words correctly.
5. Play the video and ask them to watch it attentively.
Assessment parameters:
• Learners should be able to talk about their family members
confidently.
• Learners should be able to use the correct words.
Saying it right
Objective:
• To say words beginning with g, l, f, b sounds correctly
Time required: 10 minutes
Material required: the book and Smart Board
D1. Sing
Procedure:
1. Inform listeners that you are going to play the song.

D2. Repeat
Procedure:
1. Inform learners that you are going to play the audio with the
words.
2. Ask learners to listen attentively to the words and repeat
them, paying attention to the beginning sound of every
word.
3. Play the audio.
4. Help learners say the words correctly. Then, play the video
and ask learners to watch it attentively.
Procedure:
1. Ask learners to look at the picture and observe what
different people are doing.
2. Tell them you are going to play an audio.
3. Ask them to listen to the questions in the audio and answer
them according to what they see in the picture.
4. Play the audio.
5. Instruct learners to use the words given under Grammar
Guide to answer the questions they hear.
6. Then ask learners to form pairs and encourage them to ask
questions about each other’s family and answer them.
Teaching tip: Tell learners that we use:
‘He is …’; ‘She is …’; ‘They are ...’ to describe what people
are doing.

Procedure:
1. Ask learners to work in pairs and tell their partner one thing
about every member of their family.
B2. Listen
Procedure:
1. Read out the task given in the book.
2. Ask learners to observe the picture of Deepak’s family.
3. Ask them to listen attentively to Deepak talk about his
family, focusing on the description of each person’s dress.
4. Play the audio and pause it after each person’s description.
Assessment parameters:
• Learners should be able to comprehend the descriptions.
Procedure:
I. Ask learners to form pairs.
2. Tell them to draw their house on the chart paper.
3. Encourage them to talk about their house using
Grammar Guide.
4. Ask each pair to talk about the common things in their houses.
Saying it right
Objectives:
• To complete words with the vowel sounds a and i
• To identify words with the consonant sounds f, g, b and l
Time required: 10 minutes
Material required: the book, a pencil and an eraser
Procedure:
1. Ask learners to say the names of the things given in the book.
2. Tell them to insert a or i to complete the words.
3. Ask them to check each other’s work.

1. Ask learners to say aloud the words given in the book.
2. Ask them to identify and match the words with the same
beginning sound.
3. Instruct them to check each other’s work.
Dictation time
Objectives:
• To familiarize learners with words and phrases
• To assess understanding of sounds and spelling
Time required: 10 minutes
Materials required: the book, Smart Board, speakers, a pencil
and an eraser
Assessment parameters:
• Learners should be able to spell out the words given.

Lesson Plan: Grade-1
Procedure:
1. Explain what a family tree is.
2. Ask the learners to draw their representations of their family
members.
3. Tell them that they should draw their grandparents in the
top two circles.
4. The learners should draw the pictures of their parents
in the two circles in the middle of the tree, and those of
their uncles or aunts in the two circles on the second row,
on the sides.
5. Instruct them to draw their picture in the big circle at
the bottom.
Procedure:
1. Instruct the learners to sit in a cirlce.
2. Ask them to look at the grid on page 31.
3. Then, ask each learner to toss the die.
4. The learner has to say the name of a picture in the same
column as the number shown on the die they have tossed.
5. After naming the object, ask the learner to identify the first
sound of the word they have said.
6. Then, ask the learner to say another word beginning with
the same sound.
Answer key:
1. fish, fan, man, mat
2. cat, can, lip, lock
3. dog, den, rat, rug
4. pin, pan, hat, hen
5. nib, net, girl, gift
6. tiger, tap, bag, bug
Any words that begin with the same sounds as the pictures can
be accepted.
