5.2.1 Interfaces
The following interfaces have been identified which affect the works:
- Other MEP utilities installation.
5.2.2 Constraints
- When any circumstances differ from this method statement, please inform the Construction and
Technical Manager immediately.
- The emergency procedure has to be discussed and understood prior to the start of the work.
- Make a safe access and egress for the operatives before starting work.
- A reasonable safe distance (to be advised by construction manager depending on type of works and
situation) need to be kept for other works on the platform like lifting works.
- For elevated working areas scaffolding to be safely executed, inspected and tagged by site safety team
prior to use.
5.3.1 Check that the drawing and material submittals are approved and verify the materials as per
the approved material submittal
5.3.2 Inspect the pipes stored on a reasonably surface free from large stones or sharp projections
5.3.3 Loading and unloading of pipes should be carried out by hand and use of skids should be
avoided, pipes should not be dragged along rough surface extra care should be exercised in
handing pipes to avoid damage to the wall surface (as per manufacturer’s recommendation).
5.3.4 Ensure that fire equipment is stored in a safe, clean and dust free environment.

Method statement
5.4.1.1 Works shall not proceed until an approved construction drawing or detail is issued
5.4.1.2 Safe access to work areas shall be provided prior to commencement of works.
5.4.1.3 Materials shall be moved to the work area in a safe manner and shall not block
access/egress from the site.
5.4.1.4 Suitable mechanical aids shall be used where heavy loads are to be moved lifted into
position. Such equipment shall be planned for in advance of works.
5.4.2.1 Co-ordinated drawings shall be developed to ensure that opening levels and locations for
MEP Services are in accordance with approved drawing and / or site requirements.
5.4.3.1 Check access is available to the area where installation is to be carried out.
5.4.3.2 Check Materials to be used have been approved by the Engineer and are available on site.
5.4.4.1 Inner/ Outer surfaces of pipe to be cleaned prior lying and to ensure all pipes are free from
foreign particles, dirt etc.
5.4.4.2 Pipe route marking will be carried out as per the location determined on the work shop
drawing/ coordination layout.
5.4.4.3 Location of pipe supports and hangers will be marked and the minimum horizontal spacing
will be as per the specification and engineer’s satisfaction.
5.4.4.4 Install pipes parallel to each other and have enough space to permit applying joint
insulation and servicing of valves as per approved shop drawing.
5.4.4.5 Red oxide paint to be applied after the welding of joint completed.
5.4.4.6 All rust, dirt and foreign matter shall be removed from the bevel surface before welding
started. Tacks shall be feathered out before stringer bead is welded.
Method statement
5.4.4.10 The welding current shall be direct current with reverse polarity (pipe negative and
electrode positive). The voltage and amperage for each size electrode shall be as per the
electrode the manufacturer’s requirements and specifications.
5.4.4.11 The welding current and manner of depositing weld metal shall be such that the layers will
show practically no undercut on the side walls of the joined parts, no overlap, no excessive
spatter, evenly spaced ripple, adequate penetration and undercutting at the edges.
5.4.4.12 Welding activities will be performed by certified welder who is regularly engaged in
welding of piping system.
5.4.4.13 All pipe joints will be kept without insulation until the Consultant’s approval for the hydro
test.
5.4.4.14 Ensure automatic air vents are installed at high points in system, risers, main and branches
and as required for system air venting and drain points as per approved shop drawing
where applicable.
5.4.4.15 Certification to be provided upon raising the Inspection Request for Chaps.
5.5.1 Prior to installation of valves, check the piping system for compliance with requirement for
installation tolerance and other condition affecting performance of valve.
5.5.2 Inspect the interior of the valve for cleanliness, freedom from foreign materials and corrosion.
5.5.3 For valves less that 65mm Dia. threaded joint will be used to install the valve.
5.5.4 Wrap Teflon tape around the threaded pipe, the tape should slightly overlap itself going in the
same direction as the threads.
5.5.5 After this screw the threaded end of the pipe in the valve screw fitting should be started
carefully and hand tightened, threaded pipe must be properly cut and a good quality thread
lubricant must be used during the treading.
5.5.6 For valve equal or above 65mm Dia. flange connection is used.
5.5.7 Align the flanged end of the pipe with valve by inserting all of the bolts through the matching
bolts holes after inserting gasket of approved thickness in between flanges
5.5.8 Using a torque spanner tighten each blot in a gradual sequence up to the recommended torque
valve

Method statement
The Works Engineer is responsible to brief and organize the training for the workers with support and
in coordination with the Safety Team, the Construction Manager and the Supervisor. A toolbox needs to
be held once per week with different subject and 5-minute pre task trainings before every start of the
works. All trainings need to be documented. Forms are available with the Safety team. Pre task briefing
must be held by the Works Engineer with the worker’s every time before to start the work and the
following questions need to be asked and action to be taken:
- Which PPE to wear and does everybody have the suitable PPE.
- In addition to the mandatory site PPE, PPE shall be adapted considering the protection against product
used such as glue for all workers in contact with these products.
6.1 Access
- General access for vehicles to the working area is the existing site roads within the construction area.
- Proper pedestrian access shall be ensured within the site to ensure safe performance of the work.
- Safe scaffolding access shall be ensured to carry out the installation work on elevated platforms.
- Scaffold tags shall be placed on the erected scaffold structure to be used which shall' be inspected by
safety team prior to use.
- A specific procedure is established and issued for dealing with-fire on site. This forms part of the Safety
Plan.
Method statement
- If a medical emergency occurs, then the qualified First Aiders on site should attempt to deal with the
casualty.
- All emergency duty personnel will be adequately trained to fill the emergency response role.
- Emergency procedures form part of the induction training so that all concerned are clear as to the action
