2. Review the commutative property of multiplication.

Mental Activity: Supply the missing number.
a. 20 = 10 x ___
b. 12 = ___ x 3
c. 8 = 2 x ___
d. ____ x 8 = 16
Ask: What property of multiplication did you apply?

3. Ask: Have you experienced attending birthday party? What things did you see in a party?
What did you feel when attending party with many friends? Elicit the importance of friendship.

Presentation 1. Present a situation to the class.

20 minutes
Alex will celebrate his birthday next week. He is thinking of 20 balloons for his birthday party.
What are possible numbers he can multiply to get 20?

2. Ask the following comprehension questions about the situation:

How do you feel when you have some fun with friends? Is it good to be friendly? Why?
Who will celebrate birthday? What is he thinking of? What is he going to do to the number he
is thinking?

3. Let the pupils work in pairs and have them help Alex to find possible numbers that can be
multiplied to get 20.

A. B.
1 x 20 = 20 2 x 10 4 x 5 = 20 Factors of 20

The factors of 20: 1, 2, 4, 5, 10, 20

or 1 x 20 = 20
2 x10 = 20 1, 2, 4, 5, 10, 20
4 x 5 = 20
4. Process the activity:
Ask:
How did you find the activity? What are the numbers multiplied to get 20?
What do we call the numbers multiplied?

5. Lead the pupils to generalize by asking:

What are factors?
Practice As an individual practice, have the pupils answer LM exercises A under Keep Moving page 8 .
