CONCEPT AND PRACTICING THE
NEW SKILLS #1  Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) > Is a
lifesaving technique useful in many emergencies,
including heart attack or near drowning, in which
someone’s breath or heartbeat has stopped.
 Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) combines mouth-
to-mouth resuscitation and cardiac compressions to
deliver oxygen and artificial circulation to an
unresponsive person until medical help arrives.

Recommendation: Begin CPR with chest compressions

CAB:
1. Circulation: Restore blood circulation with chest
compressions
2. Airway: Clear the airway
3. Breathing: Breathe for the person

Signs - are details discovered by applying your senses –


sight, touch, hearing, and smell during the course of
examination. Ex. Bleeding, swelling, deformities.
 Body temperature
 Pulse rate or heart rate
 Blood pressure
 Respiratory rate

Symptoms - are sensations that the victims feels or


experiences and may be able to describe. Ex. Nausea,
vomiting, heat, impaired sensations.

E. DISCUSSING NEW CONCEPT PRIMARY SURVEY - Is used when the victim is unconscious
AND PRACTICING NEW SKILLS #2 and to find out and immediately treat life-threatening
conditions.

a. A – Is the casualty ALERT? Does he/she open his/her


eyes and respond to questions?
b. V – Does the casualty respond to VOICE? Does he/she
obey to simple command?
c. P – Does he/she respond to PAIN? Does he/she react if
s/he is pinched?

SECONDARY SURVEY - Is used when the victim is conscious


or has revived. It aims to detect everything about the
patient’s condition.

taking)
