Abstract: This study delves into the phenomenon of social media as the primary platform for social interaction among
young people, which has given rise to the culture of online clout chasing. The study examines the perceptions of
Generation Z on online clout chasing as a form of social interaction, which can have positive effects on their mental
well-being. The researchers employed a qualitative research approach, specifically phenomenology, to gain insights
into the meanings that participants connect to their experiences. The study was conducted at NDMU-IBED SHS and
President Quirino Sultan Kudarat, with a sample size of five Generation Z individuals. Ethical considerations were
followed, and informed consent was obtained from the participants before conducting one-on-one interviews.
Thematic analysis by Braun and Clarke was utilized to identify significant and intriguing data from the interviews.
With the analyzed data of the study, two themes emerged which are social media engagement and social relationships.
This study emphasized online clout chasing as a way of an individual to seek attention, participate in online trends, as
well as develop friendship and self-esteem.
