ONE YEAR

DISCIPLESHIP PLAN
MARANATHA TEMPLE
By Yvonne Y. A. Gameti
DEMOGRAPHICS
• The country of Togo, located in Western Africa between
Benin and Ghana has an area of 56,785 square kilometers.

• Togo has a population of 7,991,000 with an excess mortality

due to AIDS. It has a high birth rate and 60% of the
population is under 25 years old.
POPULATION BY AGE
• Togo has a Young Population. Females are more than
Males.
• The Seventh-day Adventist church came in Togo in 1964
and gained the status of Conference in 2017.
• The Conference has 61 Churches and 9,188 members as of
June 2018.
• The Church considered in this presentation is called
Maranatha Temple.
FACTS ABOUT MARANATHA TEMPLE
• Maranatha Temple is the Oldest Seventh-day Adventist church in Togo.
Members call it “The Mother Church”.
• It obviously contains generations of families since the establishment of the
church in Togo.
• The church currently has more than 200 members and most of its veterans are
out of the country.
• The church has a very young and promising population, and there is a familial
bond among its members – they protect their own.
• The families and most of the young adults in the church are well established
financially, making outsiders who do not have the same status feel excluded.
• Most of the Church members are scattered in remote places form the church , yet
they stay faithful in attendance to Sabbath Worship.

• The church has been trying for a long time to reach the population surrounding it
without success.

• Though from an outside look, the church looks beautiful and united, its members
have “outgrown” the faith and they have become cold participants or at worse,
spectators.

• The young generation that is coming out is energized into leadership, but their
roots are not spiritually grounded. The only thing keeping the church from falling
is the relationship the members have with each other. Everyone has someone and
to the outside world, it looks like a tightly knit enclosed cocoon that cannot be
broken.
DISCIPLESHIP PLAN
“And the things that you have heard from me among many
witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach
others also.” 2Timothy 2:2 – The Timothy Approach

The Four point Discipleship Plan by Rick Warren in The Purpose

Driven Church, p.144-145.
Commitment to Christ
Commitment to Church
Commitment to Ministry
Commitment to become a Lay Minister
My Discipleship Plan Is On A Care Group
Ministry. Here Are My Reasons:
• Young Population
• Family and Friends driven
• Teach the church teamwork, unity, spiritual protection and accountability
• Prepare them to receive new converts
• In extension, they become missionaries
• “In laboring where there are already some in the faith, the minister should at first seek
not so much to convert unbelievers, as to train the church-members for acceptable co-
operation. Let him labor for them individually, endeavoring to arouse them to seek for
a deeper experience themselves, and to work for others. When they are prepared to
sustain the minister by their prayers and labors, greater success will attend his efforts.”
Ellen G. White, Gospel Workers, 196.

• The Pastor will spend a week in prayer and fasting for God’s direction, the Spirit’s
guidance and members’ reception of the plan.
• She will preach sermons series on discipleship and revival to inform and prepare the
heart and mind of the church members.
