It involves giving than asking.
Deals with facts unknown to audience
By sharing information, ignorance is reduced, or better yet, eliminated.
The informative value of a message is measured by how novel and
relevant the information is or kind of understanding it provides the
receivers.
Examples: politician’s speech, commercial, product demonstration, religious group inviting someone to attend service
Three Subtypes
1. TO CONVINCE
Directed toward the audience when the speaker wishes to seek approval for his
recommendation.
2. TO STIMULATE
When the speaker wishes the audience to sympathize with his proposals (reinforce
audience existing beliefs, attitudes and emotions)
3. TO ACTUATE
When the audience did action right after hearing the persuasive speech
Basic
Appeals
1. EMOTIONAL
Should not be overdone and must have logical basis
2. PERSONAL
Speaker should have respectable character
3. LOGICAL
Should observe ethical standards, free from any attempt to deliver
emotional or biased argument
ENTERTAINMENT SPEECH
The main purpose is to put an audience in a relaxed mood
Secondary purpose is to provide information
