TURBINE START UP
3 TYPES OF TURBINE START UP MODE

a. Cold start up
b. Warm start up
c. Hot start up

TURBINE START UP DEPEND ON THE HP OUTLET CONTROL

STAGE METAL TEMPERTURE

A. control stage metal temperature is T<150ºC turbine start cold start up.

B. control stage metal temperature is 150ºC<T<375ºC turbine start warm

start up.

C. control stage metal temperature is T>375ºC turbine start Hot start up.
ACW,CW&CCCW PUMP
1.Start ACW Pump.

ACW PUMP:- Auxiliary cooling water pumps supply cooling water at

the required flow rate and head for the cooling of CCCW TG side,
Vacuum Pump PHE, boiler side and also to compressor side, FOPH
side and AHP side.

2.Start CW Pump.

CW PUMP:- Circulating water pumps supply cooling water at the required flow
rate and head to the power plant condenser and the plant auxiliary cooling water
heat exchanger.

3.Start any one CCCW Pump.

CCCW PUMP:- CCCW system supplies the cooling water to the plant
auxiliary equipped cooler. The cooling water is supplied to MDBFP,
TDBFP, Lube oil PHE, Seal oil PHE, EH oil Cooler, SCCW PHE,
Hydrogen Cooling, CEP thrust bearing cooling.
AIR COMPRESSOR&DRYER
4.Start any one instrument, service air compressor & dryer.

AIR COMPRESSOR:-The compressor is machine that delivers

constant pressurized air.

DRYER:- air dryer is used for removing water vapor from

compressed air.

SEAL OIL SYSTEM AND SCCW SYSTEM

5.Check seal oil system is healthy condition.

6.Check stator coil cooling water system is healthy condition.

7.Check generator H2 pressure(4.1kg/cm2) and purity(>97.5%).

START LUBE OIL SYSTEM AND BARRING GEAR
LUBRICANT:- lubricant are those substances, which are used to reduce the
force of friction between two sliding surface.

1.check lube oil tank(MOT) level is normal and oil temperature(>30degC ).

2.Start vapor extractor fan and check MOT pressure(-0.028 TO

-0.040kg/cm2).

Vapor extractor:-To keep the main oil tank internal pressure.

3.Check any one oil cooler(PHE) in service from cooling water and lube oil
side and other oil cooler(PHE) is stand by and charge from cooling water
side.

4.Check any one lube oil filter in service and other is stand by.
5.Start TOP and check lub oil header pressure (1.8kg/cm2).

Lub oil supply:-To supply the lubrication oil for each bearing, barring gear
spray, coupling spray and jacking oil pump.

6.Star JOP and check discharge pressure (>121kg/cm2).

JOP supply:-To supply the jacking oil for bearing no 3 to 6 to jack up the
turbine rotor during Turing gear and low speed operation.

7.Start turbine barring gear and check turbine speed(2.8RPM).

8.Start AOP and check HP oil pressure (24.4kg/cm2).

HP oil supply:- To supply the test oil for MOST, auto stop oil and
emergency oil for trip device.
START PRE CLEAN UP

PRE CLEANUP :-
a. Hot well blow.
b. Condenser blow
c. Condenser recirculation
d. LP clean up blow
e. LP clean up recirculation
g. HP clean up blow
h. HP clean up recirculation

9.Start any one DMSW pump and maintain Hot well level through the normal
make up(900mm).

10.Start condensate extraction pump(CEP) and maintain the Deaerator level.

11.During LP clean up recirculation take one CPU in service.

START CHEMICAL DOSING SYSTEM
13.During plant Start up or abnormal operation ammonia dosing all volatile
treatment(AVT )with hydra zinc in service and normal operation combined
water treatment(CWT)with oxygen(O2) in service.

LP clean up recirculation completed then start hp clean up blow

14.Start one MDBFP.

15.Charge TG Aux. steam header by aux. boiler or running unit.

16.Gland sealing charge .

Gland sealing :-The function of the Gland Steam System is to prevent the leakage of
the air into steam turbine.
Preparation for gland sealing:-
a. Start GSC vapor extractor fan and check GSC tank pressure
(-0.066kg/cm2).
b. Charge gland steam header and maintain header pressure 0.25 to
0.32kg/cm2.
17.Start vacuum pump and check vacuum.
LP SHELL VACUUM: 0.0783kg/cm2(a)
HP SHELL VACUUM: 0.1002kg/cm2(a)

18.Start Deaerator pegging.

HP clean up recirculation completed then start boiler filling

19. Start EH oil system.

a. Check oil level.
b. EH Oil cooler in service.
c. Eh Oil filter in service.
d. Start polishing pump.
e. Start EH Oil pump and discharge pressure(>120kg/cm2).

When steam parameter achieve then turbine preparation start

f. Turbine mall drain open condition.

g. Note HP outlet control stage metal temperature.
h. Note Differential expansion.
i. Note HP&IP top and bottom casing temperature.
TURBINE COLD START UP
1.Steam parameter:-
a. Pressure=85kg/cm2
b. Temperature=380ºC to 430ºC

2.Reset the Turbine.

3.Check All GV & RSV fully opened.

4.Select 500RPM and “EXEC”.

5.Select 150RPM/MIN and “EXEC” on speed rate.

6.After the Turbine Speed reaches 500RPM,Select rub check in and

“EXEC” then rub check completed, Select rub Check out and
“EXEC”.

7.After 500RPM then Select 1950RPM Turbine speed and “EXEC”.

8.At 900RPM confirm that JOP will automatically stop.

8.At 1950RPM turbine speed confirm, heat soaking is done for 180
minutes for rotor warming.
9.Complited 180 minutes for heat soaking then Select 3000RPM Turbine
speed and “EXEC”.
.
10.At 2950RPM confirm that TOP&AOP will automatically stop and MOP
started.

11.Confirm 3000RPM completed then valve transfer MSV to GV.

12.Competed Valve transfer then synchronized.
