GREETINGS

Greeting adalah sebuah ungkapan salam dalam


Bahasa Inggris yang digunakan untuk menyapa
orang lain.

Greeting digunakan untuk menyapa seseorang,


baik yang kenal ataupun belum mengenal orang
tersebut.
Greetings categorized
There are different ways to greet people in English, we usually categorize greeting into formal and informal
situations.

For examples:
FORMAL
1. Formal
• How are you? A more formal situation, or indeed a non-informal situation,
• I am fine, thanks might include greeting work colleagues at the
office, congratulating your team,  attending a professional
development seminar, or attending a job interview.
2. Informal
• How are you guys
INFORMAL
doing?
• We are doing great This could be speaking to a friend, meeting up with a family
member, or saying hello to a close colleague.

Formal and informal


Formal is more polite and also if you don't know
the person.

Informal is used when talking to friends only!


Let’s remember that there are informal and formal greetings and that some of them can be used in both
contexts or situations.

These are some of the most common phrases to greet people:

• “Morning, Josh.”
• “Hello, Marry.” • “Good Morning.” • “Morning, guys.”
• “How are you?” • “Good Afternoon.” • “How are you doing?”
• “How do you do?” • “Good Night.” • “Howdy?”
• “How are things with you?” • “Good Evening.” • “How is it going?”
• “It’s nice to meet you.” • “Hi!” • “Hey, Matthew.”
• “It’s a pleasure to meet you.” • • “Hey, What’s up.”
“Hello!”
• “Hey, Buddy/ guys.”
• etc. • etc. • “Hey, What’s going on?”
• “What’s new?”
• etc.

NOTES!
• “Good morning” : dari pagi – makan siang
• “Good afternoon” : dari siang – awal petang (sekitar jam 6 sore)
• “Good evening” : untuk sisa malam
• “Good night” : digunakan ketika kita akan meninggalkan seseorang pada akhir petang atau
ketika kita hendak beristirahat tidur.
Expressions to Respond to Greetings
These are some of the common ways to respond to some of
the greetings above:

• Good to see you • Fine


• Good to see you too • Not good
• I’m fine • Nothing
• Very well, thanks • Not much
• Great • Good
• Not bad
• I’m doing great
• Pretty good
INTRODUCTION

Arti dari introduction (noun) adalah perkenalan.


sedangkan untuk (verb) atau kata kerjanya adalah
introduce, yang artinya memperkenalkan diri.

Self Introduction adalah perkenalan diri.

Dalam sebuah percakapan self-introduction,


biasanya ada kalimat:
“let me introduce myself”
artinya adalah
“ijinkan saya memperkenalkan diri”.

Kalimat lainnya yang terkesan lebih halus atau


sopan yaitu:
“I would like to introduce myself” ,
atau “I’d like to introduce myself”.
kalimat ini biasanya diikuti dengan
”my name is... (nama kamu)”, dan seterusnya.
There are two parts of introducing:

Introducing Yourself Introducing Someone

• “This is… (nama temanmu)”


• “I am …” Setelah itu jelaskan informasi mengenai orang tersebut,
(nama depan + nama keluarga/ marga) misal umurnya, hobinya, dll. Contoh:
• “He’s a friend of mine.”
“My name is…”
“He’s a friend of my brother.”
(nama depan + nama keluarga/ marga)
“She’s my cousin.”

Dave : “Pleased to meet you! I’m Dave.” John : “Hi Paul. Nice to meet you.”

Introducing yourself
These are some of the most common phrases to introducing
yourself:

• I just wanted to introduce myself , my name is …


• I don’t think we’ve actually met formally yet, My name is …
• Excuse me , I don’t think we’ve met. My name is Ben Jackson.
• My name is Joan Lee.
• Excuse me , are you………………..?
• Let me introduce myself. My name is James Start.
• May I introduce myself. My name is Miss Jones.
• Permit me to introduce myself. My name is Mr. Brown.
• Excuse me , are you Manit? My name is Mark Eggler.
• My name is Chusri. What’s yours?
• I’m Wassana

These are some of the most common phrases to introducing
someone else (FORMAL):

• I’d like to introduce you to …


• There’s someone I’d like you to meet, this is ….
• This is Mr. Green.
• Have you met …?
• I’d like you to meet Mr. Wilson.
• I’d like to introduce you to Mrs. Lee.
• Let me introduce Mr. John.
• May I present Miss Linda.
• Mrs. Conway , I’d like you to meet Mr. Johnson.
• I’d like you to meet my friend , …………… (name)
Introducing someone else (Informal)
These are some of the most common phrases to introducing
someone else (INFORMAL):

• This is Lock. Lock, This is Ted.


• Suda , meet Anna.
• Nit , have you met Tony?
