GLOBAL PROBLEMS THAT REQUIRE
GLOBAL SOLUTIONS!
• Achieving these goals in essence will create a world where all people
can live productive, vibrant and peaceful lives on a healthy planet.
FROM MDGs to SDGs
• Launched in 2015 the MDG's provided an important framework for
the development and significant progress in a number
areas. However, the progress achieved through MDG's has been
uneven particularly in the case of Africa and other least developed
countries.
DEVELOPMENT • All countries under the United Nations and all stakeholders within it are focused on
working collaboratively to implement the SDG's
GOALS • The SDGs broadly consists of 17 goals and 169 targets. These goals and targets are set to
stimulate action for 15 years with the hope of achieving Universal Sustainability.
THE 5Ps of SDGs
1. People
2. Planet
3. Prosperity
4. Peace
5. Partnerships

KEY INSIGHTS ON SDG RELATED
RESEARCH
• Most of the research relating to SDGs stems from high income countries while only a very low
percentage across the first 16 SDGs originates from low-income countries. The SDGs most researched
are SDGs with strong relevance for industrialised countries. SDGs that directly seek to reduce the
burden of the poorest, however, see limited publication activity
• There were over 4 million articles related to specific SDGs published between 2015 – 2019. The SDG
with the most publications was SDG3 “Good Health” with a little over 3 million related articles,
followed by SDG7 “Clean Energy” (383,000) and SDG13 “Climate Action” (180,000)
KEY INSIGHTS ON SDG RELATED RESEARCH
• The SDGs that experienced the most growth in terms of number of publications were related to
responsible consumption and sustainability
• Articles with the most impact, came from SDG7 - Clean Energy, SDG12 - Responsible
Consumption, SDG13 - Climate Action, and SDG6 - Clean Water
• The SDGs that showed the strongest international collaboration were SDG13 - Climate Action, SDG14
- Life Below Water, SDG15 - Life on Land
