Me, Myself, and My
Online Identity
• In looking at your friends’
Facebook profiles especially their
profile pictures, you may perceive
that these images are only projected
images-these are how your friends
want to be seen. You will find
different kinds of profile pictures o
Facebook.
FRONT AND
BACK STAGES OF
THE SELF
• Front and Back Stages of the Self
Goffman (1967), as cited by
Delise (2012), theorizednotions
concerning the presentation of
self in daily face-to-face
interactions.
• In Goffman’s dramaturgical
theory, he claimed that life is a
series of interactions and
performances where people
enact the presentation of self
on a daily basis.
• The theory presents social life
as a stage, where all are actors
and audience members.
DIGITAL SELF
• In today’s digital technologies, it
becomes more easy for some
people to redefine or recreate
themselves digitally Technology
can manipulate one’s physical
appearances, it manage to produce
not the authentic self. Manipulated
images simply serve as
representations of one’s ideal self-
or what one wants to be.
WHAT NOT TO POST
ONLINE?
1. Sexy or revealing pictures
2. Pictures or Videos showing private moments
with loved ones
3. Pictures or Videos showing bad habits
4. Negatives comments on another person’s
attitudes
5. Post announcing conflicts with other people
6. Posts of the result of a particular competition
with the names of defeated participants
WHAT NOT TO
POST ONLINE?
7. Comments showing strong opposition to certain
issues
• Dichotomy: it is a barier of
two opposed ideas.
• Self—a being that
distinguishes them from others.
Three
dichotomies
• Producer Vs. Consumer
• Offline Vs. Online
• Body Vs. Technology

TO BE ADDRESSED.
• 1. Sharing fake news
• 2. Cyberbullying
• 3. Sharing Viruses
How do you fight social
media addiction?
• Are you one of these netizens who
spends more time on social media than
spending time with themselves?
Family and peers? If yes, then you will
be considered a social media addict.
Social media is relevant to all since it’s
one of the easiest ways to interact with
people around the world, but little did
everyone know that it can also destroy
a life.
• Overusing social media
may have harmful effects
on your body, such as your
eyes and brain. The more
time you spend on social
media, the more your brain
is washed by negative
posts.
• Social media is also a tool for
inquiring voters, especially in
those past days of the election,
but as far as a netizen supports
his or her bias, the more friends
dislike him or her. In instances
where this occurs, do not join
these kinds of people who want
a debate that has no end; just
unfriend them and protect your
peace of mind.
• The main point is that we, the
netizens, should be aware of what
we post and be responsible
netizens. Instead of spending so
much time browsing social media,
read books instead. Have positive
communication with your loved
ones, peers, and family to have a
strong bond, protect your mental
state, and live a peaceful life.
