Bethany hamilton
- 2. Early Life Bethany was born on February 8, 1990 on the island of Kauai, Hawaii to Thomas R. Hamilton and Cherilyn Hamilton. At the age of 8 Bethany entered her first surf competition and won the short and long board divisions. When Bethany was 13 she was surfing off the coast of Kauai and got attacked by a 14 foot tiger shark and lost 60% of her blood and her left arm. After about a month Bethany was back on her board surfing trying to pursue her goal to be a professional surfer.
- 3. Adult Life In January of 2004 Bethany entered her first surf competition since the attack , Bethany won 5th place. A year later Bethany entered the 2005 NSSA National Championships competition and won 1st place in the Explorer Women’s division.
- 4. Main Accomplishments Here is one out of the many competitions Bethany was in- ASP and World Tour Events with her major highlight being a second place finish in the ASP 2009 World Junior Championships.
- 5. I think that Bethany is a hero because… She inspired kids to never give up and to keep trying. Bethany also showed kids that if you fall down you need to get right back up, meaning after the shark attack it made things hard for her but not impossible and she kept trying.
