- The English Standard Version (ESV) is an English translation of the Bible. The ESV was published in 2001 by Crossway, having been "created by a team of more than 100 leading evangelical scholars and pastors." The ESV relies on recently published critical editions of the original Hebrew and Greek texts. Crossway claims that the ESV continues a legacy of precision and faithfulness in English translation of the original text. It describes the ESV as a translation that "emphasizes 'word-for-word' accuracy, literary excellence, and depth of meaning." It also describes the ESV as a translation that adheres to an "essentially literal" translation philosophy, taking into account "differences in grammar, syntax, and idiom between current literary English and the original languages." Since publication, the ESV has been endorsed by numerous evangelical pastors and theologians, including John Piper, R. C. Sproul, and Kevin DeYoung. As of July 2015, over 100 million printed copies of the translation had been distributed. By 2021, this figure had increased to 250 million. (en)

Prace nad przekładem rozpoczęły się w 1990 roku. Podstawą nowego tłumaczenia był przekład Revised Standard Version z 1971 roku. Według wydawcy ESV wywodzi się z tradycji Biblii King James Version jednak baza tekstowa nie jest oparta o Textus receptus. (pl)
- De English Standard Version (ESV) is een Engelse vertaling van de Bijbel. De vertaling werd voor het eerst gepubliceerd in 2001 door Crossway. De ESV is gebaseerd op de tekst van de (RSV) uit 1971. De ESV hanteert een "wezenlijk letterlijke" vertaalfilosofie, rekening houdend met de verschillen in grammatica, syntaxis en idioom tussen het huidige literaire Engels en de originele tekst. De ESV is geen geheel nieuwe vertaling, maar een herziening van de Revised Standard Version (RSV), die weer een herziening is van de King James-bijbelvertaling. De ESV is niet alleen een modernisering van de RSV, maar ook een herziening. Het vertaalteam heeft namelijk niet alleen het taalgebruik van de RSV gemoderniseerd, maar tevens passages aangepast waar men invloed bespeurde van Schriftkritische theorieën. Als theologisch redacteur was onder anderen James Packer betrokken bij het tot stand komen van de vertaling. (nl)
