Non Orthogonal Multiple Access (NOMA) technique in Visible Light Communications (VLC) enhances the performances like spectral efficiency, achievable data rate, fairness, outage probability, etc. NOMA uses superposition in power domain at the transmitter and Successive Interference Cancellation (SIC) at the receiver. SIC operation is expected to perform perfect cancellation to avoid errors in the received signal. In this paper, Neural Network (NN) methods are used to overcome imperfect SIC in a NOMA VLC system. The Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR), Bit Error Rate (BER), and bitrate performance of the NOMA VLC systems are analyzed using Convolution Neural Network (CNN), long short term memory (LSTM), and Deep Neural Network (DNN) algorithms. Simulation results shows that the NN methods outperforms the conventional NOMA VLC system to a perfect SIC. Considering SNR for the BER 10−4, CNN outperforms SIC by 5 dB, DNN by 2 dB and LSTM by 1.5 dB. Further, CNN also outperforms SIC, DNN, and LSTM ...

Flip Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (flip-OFDM) is one of the unipolar forms of OFDM used in Visible Light Communication (VLC) systems. This paper analyzed the multi user VLC systems to transfer flip-OFDM based signal using different form of Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) transmission techniques. These transmission techniques are Repetitive Coding (RC), Spatial Modulation (SM), generalized spatial modulation (Generalized SM) and spatial multiplexing (SMP). Multi User Interference (MUI) at the transmitter has been bypassed using precoding process of Block Diagonalization (BD). The performance analysis of proposed system is carried out with the help of simulation. A comparative study for RC, SM, generalized SM and SMP for multi user VLC system is performed with regard to Bit Error Rate (BER) performance. These transmission techniques are compared with and without the use of flip-OFDM. Furthermore, we also analyzed the Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) of flip-OFDM ...

Sudden cardiac death (SCD) is becoming a severe problem despite significant advancements in the usage of the information and communication technology (ICT) in the health industry. Predicting an unexpected SCD of a person is of high importance. It might increase the survival rate. In this work, we have developed an automated method for predicting SCD utilizing statistical measures. We extracted the intrinsic attributes of the electrocardiogram (ECG) signals using Hilbert-Huang and wavelet transforms. Then utilizing machine learning (ML) classifier, we are using these traits to automatically classify regular and SCD existing risks. Support vector machine (SVM), decision tree (DT), naive Bayes (NB), discriminate k-nearest neighbors (KNN), analysis (Disc.), as well as an ensemble of classifiers also utilized (Ens.). The efficiency and practicality of the proposed methods are evaluated using a standard database and measured ECG data obtained from 18 ECG records of SCD cases and 18 ECG re...

1 — VIsible light communication for advanced Driver Assistant Systems (VIDAS) is an outdoor application using the visible spectrum of light emitting diodes (LED). A simple traffic light set up based on LED traffic lights for traffic information transmission has been analyzed in this paper. Various important design parameters have been optimized through intensive investigation based on gain variation over 100 m of transmission range. This process is expected to simplify the front-end receiver design and enhance the performance of the receiver which is one of the most critical elements in a visible light communication (VLC) transceiver, especially in outdoor applications. Our design results show receiver adaptability for different packet sizes and different distances.

There is great concern over growing road accidents and associated fatalities. In order to reduce accidents, improve congestion and offer smooth flow of traffic, several measures such as providing intelligence to transport, providing communication infrastructure along the road, vehicular communication and likewise are being undertaken. Traffic safety information broadcast from traffic lights using visible light communication (VLC) is a new cost effective technology which assists drivers to take necessary safety measures. This chapter presents VLC broadcast system considering LED-based traffic light. It discusses the integration of traffic light road side unit (RSUs) with upcoming intelligent transportation systems (ITS) architecture. Some of the offered services using this technology in vehicular environment together with future direction and challenges are discussed. A prototype demonstrator of the designed VLC systems is also presented.

Abstract This paper discusses system design considerations concerning the use of visible light communication (VLC) concepts in road traffic control systems. A simple traffic set-up model has been analyzed in order to optimize various important design parameters. This optimization is based on the gain variation over 100 m transmission range. This approach will help to specify the needed gain for the receiver in the complete set-up in order to further increase the coverage area. It will also allow important simplifications at the front-end ...

Abstract This paper addresses and implements a Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) transceiver for Visible Light Communication (VLC) systems based on FPGA. A transceiver was implemented including a transmitter capable of driving an array of light emitting diodes (LED) and a Pseudo-Noise (PN) matched decorrelator. The receiver architecture uses a discrete FIR correlator for data synchronization and acquisition. In this paper, a novel and simple PN code with a 10 bit sequence length is developed. This code ...

ABSTRACT The railway system, one of the backbones of transportation systems in many countries is becoming more and more complex. It plays increasingly significant role in economic development of the country. Therefore, it becomes necessary to ensure that it operates effectively, efficiently and safely. To achieve that railway industries have to move from old traditional manual work, mechanization and electronic usage to intelligent transportation system (ITS). The transformation of railway transportation to railway intelligent transportation system (RITS) can be a core stratagem to keep and improve the competivity from other modes of transportation. Rapid development of emerging technologies such as communication and computing, intelligent system, technological development of railway industries along with 36,000 kilometers (kms) of laid optical fiber cable make it feasible for Indian Railway (IR) to develop and design RITS. This new generation of railway transportation with higher speed, higher performance and zero tolerance for safety may be able to meet the challenges beyond IR vision 2020. The use of RITS architecture encourages structured development and integration of ITS systems that leads to maximization of benefits by minimizing redundancies and maximizing capabilities. This paper presents a distributed framework for a multi-layered RITS architecture that can be designed for integrating generated information. It also addresses the design issues and challenges in the IR scenario.
