Sara Pretto
I started out my studies with Latin and Greek Philology, dealt with accuracy and passion. I gained my PhD in Medieval History, studying Codicology and the History of Medieval Libraries, which take un incredible amount of patience, precision and determination (and also need a solid knowledge of history and all auxiliary disciplines). Since 2021, I'm the main chef of the extraordinary patrimonial collection stored in Cambrai, which includes medieval manuscripts, incunabula and private archives.
In these years between Belgium, Italy and France I improved my ability to adapt and to work independently as in team: every day I need to create networks to achieve my goals.
I have always combined my studies with a direct practice on medieval documents and the new digital enviroment (which an historian must manage): I’m convinced that it’s the only way to reach high-profile results.
For passion and personal involvement, I’m interested in Theology (which I attended in University for a year) and Gender studies in an effort to encourage a culture with no-stereotypes and discriminations.
Supervisors: Xavier Hermand, Paul Bertrand, and Berardo Pio
Address: France, Italy

Articles by Sara Pretto
tine abbey of Saint-Sépulcre in Cambrai in northern France, at the end of the fifteenth century. During this period, in the southern Low Countries, the monastic world was undergoing a wide-ranging process of renewal, related to the Observance, which was accompanied by a new production and circulation of books intended for the reformed abbeys. As a result, many monasteries increased the size of their libraries and needed to re-organize them. By examining traces of ownership and use (summaries, ex libris, tags etc.) found in the fifteenth-century manuscripts belonging to Saint-Sépulcre, the author defines the tasks of the armarius of the abbey and his role within the community. The article sheds light on two librarians who worked in succession in the abbey between the fifiteenth and sixteenth centuries and described the signs of their activity in the library at the end of the medieval period.
