Piper muricatum Blume of the Piperaceae family locally known as sireh hutan is a perennial climber, rarely shrub and reported as one of the wild Piper species found in Malaysia forest. This study has demonstrated that methanol extracts of the leaves and stem of this plant and their fractions of petroleum ether, ethyl acetate and water had shown therapeutics properties as antimicrobial, antidiabetic, antiinflammatory as well as antioxidant. Antimicrobial assay shows that the P. muricatum leaf and stem extracts/fractions have a selective inhibitory action against resistant strains of S. aureus, VRSA and MRSA respectively. Insulin releasing property was found only in the leaf part of Piper muricatum Blume and there was no significant result in the stem part. The results obtained in antiinflammatory assay indicate a considerable difference in antiinflammatory activity between extracts and also parts of the plant.
