    Demand for biofertilizers and biopesticides are increasing in line with rising public consent on healthy food and environmental safety. Biofertilizer and biopesticide for rice have been formulated and those necessary to be tested in the field. The objectives of this field experiment were to test the effect of the formulation on the population development of brown planthopper (BPH) - Nilaparvata lugens (Stål, 1854) and the virus they transmitted. Split-plot design experiment was conducted in the farmer paddy fields. The main plot was varieties and biofertilizer and biopesticide were used as subplot. The population of BPH and natural enemies were surveyed using sweep net. The viral infected plant was checked by using iodine-test, while virus disease symptom was observed visually parallel with population census. The objective of laboratory experiment was to determine the plant growth-related properties of some strain of Azotobacter isolated from saline and mercury-contaminated soil. Five isolates of Azotobacter were grown in liquid medium prior to nitrate, phytohormones, organic acids, and phosphatase analysis.     Sel ataupun supernatan bebas sel dari kultur cair isolat bakteri entomopatogen PRU8 memiliki toksisitas tinggi terhadap larva Tenebrio molitor. Bioesei protein ekstrasel kasar hasil pengendapan amonium sulfat menunjukkan bahwa toksisitas tertinggi terdapat pada protein yang diendapkan pada kejenuhan amonium sulfat 70%. Pemurnian protein menggunakan kolom Hi Prep 16/60 Sephacryl S-200 HR menghasilkan satu fraksi protein toksin. Mortalitas larva uji yang disuntik dengan 19,2 nanogram toksin murni mencapai 71%. Uji toksisitas menggunakan toksin murni menunjukkan bahwa toksin tersebut termasuk kelompok toksin tipe injeksi.     The condition of unfertile paddy field due to excessive inorganic fertilizer application causing soil degradation. Fertilizing techniques using phosphate solubilizing  and nitrogen fixer bacteria are breakthroughs that should be developed in paddy cultivation to increase fertility soil and harvest of rice. This research aims to study on phosphate solubilizing and nitrogen fixer bacteria ability to increase the harvest of rice by increasing chemical and biological fertility of soil. The research was conducted in the greenhouse of Sawah Baru experimental garden, IPB University. The design used was a completely randomized design with one factor that was dosage of inorganic fertilizers (NPK) with seven levels that were control, NPK 100%, NPK 0% + bacteria, NPK 25% + bacteria, NPK 50% + bacteria, NPK 75% + bacteria and NPK 100% + bacteria. Inokulan bakteri pemfiksasi nitrogen (N 2 ) Azotobacter umumnya diproduksi pada  media bebas N untuk mengoptimalkan fiksasi N 2 , padahal Azotobacter juga mensintesis eksopolisakarida (EPS) yang berperan sebagai amelioran tanah. Fiksasi nitrogen dihambat oleh N anorganik sedangkan produksi EPS memerlukan N anorganik. Dengan demikian diperlukan komposisi media yang mendukung produksi EPS tetapi tetap menjaga aktivitas fiksasi N 2 . Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendapatkan komposisi media cair Azotobacter berbasis molase yang diperkaya dengan asam amino sisteina dan serina untuk menghasilkan sel, EPS, dan N tersedia dengan konsentrasi yang sama dengan media anorganik. Optimasi media dilakukan pada fermentor 2 L pada suhu kamar dengan pengadukan 115 rpm selama 7 hari, kemudian inokulan cair disimpan selama dua bulan pada suhu kamar. Using biofertilizers containing phosphate-solubilizing bacteria can increase phosphate solubilization. However, it is often ineffective due to the high temperature of the storage warehouse so the viability and enzyme activity of the microbes can decrease. The aims of this study were to determine the optimum and maximum temperature of phosphate-solubilizing bacteria’s viability, knowing the effect of storage temperature on the bacteria population and halozone of phosphate-solubilizing bacteria, knowing phosphatase activity of phosphate-solubilizing bacteria which were incubated at high temperatures, and knowing the organic acid production of phosphate-solubilizing bacteria which incubated at high temperature.     The Indonesian government committed to restoring over 2 million ha of degraded peatland by the end of 2020, mainly to reduce peat fires and greenhouse gas emissions. Although it is unlikely the government will meet this target, restoration projects are still underway. One restoration strategy involves blocking peatland drainage canals, but the consequences of this for smallholder farmers whose livelihoods are dependent on agriculture are unclear. This paper investigates perceived impacts of canal blocks on smallholder farmers and identifies factors that affect their willingness to accept canal blocks on their land. We use data from 181 household questionnaires collected in 2018 across three villages in Jambi province, Sumatra. We found that the majority of respondents would accept canal blocks on their farms, perceiving that the blocks would have no impact on yields or farm access, and would decrease fire risk.     A well-structured root system is essential to ensure optimal plant growth and yield. Two experiments were conducted to determine the effects of plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) on the root system of okra plant. These experiments were arranged with a completely randomized design. The first experiment was conducted in the growth chamber with 8 different bacterial isolates consisting of Methylobacterium sp., Bacillus sp., Bacillus methylotrophicus, Flavobacterium tirrenicum, Providencia stuartii, Azotobacter vinelandii, Methylocystis parvus and PGPR consortium. The second experiment was conducted in the greenhouse and examined the effects of four poultry manure rates, i.e. 0, 6, 12 and 18 ton ha-1, or equivalent to 0, 75, 150 and 225% of recommended rates and how these are altered with the presence or absence of PGPR. Penggunaan pupuk hayati di Indonesia menunjukkan tren yang semakin meningkat.  Pupuk hayati mulai banyak diaplikasikan di lahan optimal maupun di lahan suboptimal, termasuk lahan rawa dan lahan gambut. Tanah gambut memiliki banyak kendala, diantaranya adalah pH yang sangat rendah, dan kandungan serta ketersediaan unsur hara yang sangat rendah. Selain itu lahan gambut pada musim penghujan akan terjadi penggenangan air, sedangkan pada musim kemarau akan terjadi kekeringan. Untuk mendapatkan mikroba yang mampu bertahan di lingkungan ekstrim seperti ini kami isolasi mikroba indigenous dari lahan gambut di Tanjung Jabung Timur, Jambi.     Khamir merupakan mikroorganisme uniseluler yang diklasifikasikan ke dalam kerajaan fungi. Mikroba ini memiliki potensi tidak hanya sebagai pupuk hayati, tetapi juga sebagai agen biokontrol, dekomposer, bioremediasi, serta sebagai probiotik, prebiotik, dan imunostimulan untuk ternak. Penelitian mengenai eksplorasi khamir yang berasal dari rizosfer dan jaringan sudah banyak dilakukan pada berbagai tanaman, tetapi eksplorasi khamir yang berasal dari lahan pertanian padi di Indonesia belum banyak dilaporkan. Penelitian ini bertujuan melakukan isolasi dan karakterisasi khamir dari rizosfer dan jaringan tanaman padi dari beberapa contoh tanah yang memiliki pH tanah rendah, pH netral, dan pH tinggi. Sebanyak 33 isolat khamir berhasil diisolasi dari rizosfer pada kedalaman 20–30 cm dan jaringan tanaman padi.     Nitrogen-fixing Azotobacter is a renewable source of biofertilizer for plant growth. Increased of antibiotic level in soil due to intensive used manure is believed to induce bacterial sensitivity to antaibiotic. An antibiotic sensitivity test has been carried out to study the inhibition effect of ampicillin, streptomycin, tetracycline and chloramphenicol on Azotobacter isolated from mercury-contaminated taling. The resistance test was performend by using disc plate method in Nitrogen-free Ashby’s agar with and without mercury. The results showed that the presence of 20 mg/L mercury in plate agar totally inhibited Azotobater growth. In the absence of mercury chloride, all isolates showed different sensitivity to antibiotics. Growth of Azotobacter buru1 was only inhibited by tetracycline.
